Discussão Piratas das Caraíbas: Homens Mortos Não Contam Histórias

I wanted this movie to be good, it was likely just wishful thinking.

At least it's not 17%, like Baywatch. Yikes.

31% let's hope that it climbs up and pulls a final push while the last reviews pull in, at least so it surpasses at least five percent more than the fourth, which I hope this one never reaches that level of disappointment.

It's not very good. Villain is fun, as is the contractually obligated to return Barbossa, everything else is pants.

Just because the RT rating is low doesn't mean that you won't enjoy it.

Transformers proves that point. Does anyone think that the next Transformers movie won't a) have a similarly piss-poor score and b) make a buttload of money? Some movies are just junk food, the audience knows it, and they don't care.

Exactly! It may not be even be a film that anyone else much likes - I loved "Winter's Tale" which critics and audiences rejected. Each to their own.

29%

More critics liked the fourth one.

It's not really shocking. The first movie was excellent and with each new installment they got a little bit worse. This should be the last film in the franchise but they will keep making them as long as they pull in money. On Stranger tides made over a billion despite being a poor film. If this film does well I am sure there will be a 6th one.

They're advertising it as the "last adventure". I think the writing is on the wall...these movies have lost a little steam and are no longer the "event" movies they used to be like the first of the three. Pirate movies in this day and age were ALWAYS a hard sell, Disney should be happy they made as much money as they did with this franchise. They're still printing their own money with Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar & their Animated Live action remakes, so this franchise will hardly be missed by the big mouse.

Why would anyone have been expecting this to be good?

Wanna know what's interesting? The Cinemascore right now is an A-. That's a pretty damn good score. The Cinemascore is an actual audience survey instead of an aggregate of critic scores. So regular people going to see Pirates are enjoying it. I am much more interested in the Cinemascore than I am the RottenTomatoes or Metacritic aggregates because it tells me that the people going to see these movies are getting what they expect. (Baywatch is also getting a B+)

The primary effect of critic reviews is to slightly suppress or enhance revenue for major releases. They have a much greater effect on small or obscure films because people haven't generally formed an opinion about those first.

I honestly never care about RT reviews. I hardly ever agree with them, they are nitpicking too much 90% of the time. I always liked this over the top franchise and I always will. It's a fun summer movie and that's it. You laugh, you roll your eyes, enjoy the music, discuss it and move on. I watch movies for fun and I'll never understand constant whining about their quality (not just POTC movies, l meant movies in general). Yeah at some point they should just drop it but let's be real, not every movie is made with an intention to be the next "The Godfather" or "Schindler's List" nor they are trying to be, nor they should be.

A change in direction from academy-award nominated directors of Kon Tiki, Jeff Nathanson who wrote the screenplay also wrote Catch Me If You Can, they promised it would be in vein of the first, Javier Bardem, and the fact that it was confirmed Will and Elizabeth were returning to the franchise.

There was so much potential for a great film. It's just sad to see this last hope for the franchise squandered.

Yet, it's now tracking at 65% here on TMDb, which is well-known for being rather conservative, ratings-wise. Seems a pretty darned good number for what this movie appeared to be.

So, is it proving to be a solid movie? Or did TMDb's ratings system get gamed?

I thought it was far better than the 4th one. I liked that it actually was a continuation of the series arc rather than just a random Jack Sparrow adventure. Yeah the jokes are silly and the stunts are ridiculous, but that's what this franchise is about, that's what people expect to see when they go to the theater to watch a POTC movie.

Yeah, I too thought it was far better than the fourth which just bored me. Over-the-top action and lots of jokes (some that hit, some not so much). Depp just fits here at this point and we get to see some excellent work from Javier Bardem.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/Ifd_yV1ZFNg
