I just finish watching it but I don't know why MacCaulay killed Wynant and why he wanted to kill Nick at the dinner.

forever_swirl 12 years ago : MacCaulay kill's Wynant because W. was about to discover that M. had been swindling money out of him. Remember he gave pt. of the money (bonds, I think) to W.'s gf? Well, when W. left her, he figured out that M. was her partner in that crime. Great timing for M. to murder the old boy too since he was going out of town anyway!

Also, M. tries to kill Nick because N. figured out who killed W. MacCaulay also didn't want to go to jail so I suppose he thought he'd shoot his way out. What a rat!

I usually have to watch 30s-40s murder mysteries at least twice because by the time the culprit is nailed, I can't remember the hows or whys. Even the second time around I'm still somewhat stumped. Maybe I'm just dense but it doesn't really matter because those vintage movies are timeless in their entertainment value and I can watch them over and over and never get bored.

I already asked this but it's getting complicated. McCauly kills Wyant, but is he also the one who shoots the witness on the street, and did he kill Julia too????

McCauley killed everyone. He killed Wynant because Wynant figured out he'd been swindling him. He killed Julia to shut her up. He killed Nunheim because Nunheim was blackmailing him over the Julia Wolf murder.
