Seems like, for whatever reason, they tried to make it more comedic than the first Highlander movie. It doesn't really work and especially the villains come off as goofy if anything and Michael Ironside, who is usually great, just comes off as a tryhard Kurgan copy with completely unnecessary attempts to be funny. I read that the director Russell Mulcahy had mentioned that they had to try and "surpass" the first movie and couldn't just copy the ideas from it. That also seems odd to me because they did seem to try and do their darndest to include elements of the first film into this sequel. Especially noteworthy, at least to me, was the inclusion of the "Who wants to live forever" music again, but it just seems forced in this one. They even decided to use it twice for whatever reason and the first time they use it when Christopher Lambert's character starts making out with some chick he just met it just comes off silly.
