The hardest thing about visiting Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, is to see how so many locals struggle. They work harder and longer hours than any people I’ve come across anywhere in the world but have very little to show for it. A full time job can pay as little as $200 monthly! Luckily as a foreigner who can earn a lot more than that where I to go back to work, I’m in a position to make someone’s day from time to time.

Day 2 of my month long tour of Thailand by motorbike. I set out from Nakhon Sawan, drive through Kamphaeng Phet and see some amazing old Buddha ruins before heading for Sukothai. After several pitstops at PTT gas-stations (they're #1), a couple of dead python snakes and a few wrong turns which sent me through Ramkhanheng national park I arrive at Thailand's ancient capital Sukothai. I find a hotel, eat my favorite Thai dish, grab some supplies at 7/11 before I head for the amazing ruins of the old city (or Muang gao as the city is called in Thai). Renting a bicycle is the best way to cover the most amount of ground in the shortest amount for time here. One bicycle costs 30 baht for the whole day! Entrance to the main site with the highest number of ruins cost 100 baht. There's also a second site i highly recommend visiting about 1km from the old city. There entrance also cost 100 baht. I chose to stay at a hotel next to the ruins in Sukothai's old town.

The Republic of Pridnestrovie or Transnistra, as it's known in English, is an unrecognized country straddling the Dniester river sandwiched between Moldova and Ukraine. The country declared independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union. However Moldova did not take kindly to this and a war ensue. I visited this capital with the communist hammer and sickle in its national flag as it's one of a handful of post-Soviet unresolved land disputes. The country was much less corrupt than I expected and I really enjoyed swimming in the Dniester river, visiting the 14th century fort in Bender, meeting the locals and the general Soviet aura that looms large over the place. See that and more in the film.

Day 5 of my month long tour of Thailand by motorbike. I head out from Mae Hong Son on the hunt for a hidden village of long neck hilltribe people on the Burmese border. The long neck people are refugees who fled Myanmar in 1992. They're not allowed to work legally in Thailand but survive selling their handicrafts in their own village market. This I had to see. Se what the long neck women are like and the amazing nature that surrounds their village in the mountains of Northern Thailand. Driving through the Thai jungle past picturesque ricefields on a motorbike crossing rivers was an event in and of itself.

Day 8 of my tour of Thailand by motorbike. I drive over the most amazing mountains I've ever crossed between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. The fog is thick, it's freezing cold, I'm wet as hell from being once again assaulted by Thailand's torrential rain. But I'm loving it. I find a village on top of the highest mountain peak and investigate. I then soldier on down the other side towards Chiang Rai. In Chiang Rai I visit the city's number one tourist attraction; the classic White Temple and talk to some local Thais around town. STALINGRAD, RUSSIA: The city that changed the course of European as well as world history is today known as Volgograd. The Germans had over a Million men here at the peak of the conflict in late 1942. The Soviets poured in considerably more. The dream of a German empire died here at the banks of the Volga river. The same banks instead gave birth to the dream of a Soviet empire. This is where it all turned around for the Soviet Union. The victory here propelled the Red Army forward to re-conquer the territories lost in the the 1941-42 season and eventually all the way to Berlin. The historical significance of Stalingrad was palpable as I touched down at the airport. The rest is not history as they say but in the film above.

INDIA, NEW DELHI: I had mixed feelings about leaving Delhi and heading towards Rajasthan. I was truly excited to discover and explore a new state full of new colors and exotic foods but I wasn’t looking forward to the bus ride there. Indian buses are horrible I’ve been lead to believe and I honestly thought the journey was going to be a true nightmare. Oh boy how wrong I was. What ensued was one of the most entertaining yet comfortable bus journeys I’ve ever been on. So would you dare ride on this Indian bus? And what would you've done with the cookie? Let me hear it in the comment section. Also major props to the nice gentleman who was responsible for bringing the cookies. What a generous man. Since this video was taped I've had many bus journeys throughout India and they haven't all been as fun and comfortable as this one. Still, for anyone considering traveling from one Indian city to another, using the sleeper bus are generally a quite comfortable undertaking.

VIETNAM, HANOI: I've tried some strange meals in my time touring the globe but never have I had one that was slain, drained and chopped up right in front of me. But you know what they say, there's a first time for everything. Hanoi is actually quite famous for its snake restaurants where people come not only from abroad but also from across the country to try this specialty dish. So how is the meal prepared? What was the heart like? And what does this tasty meal cost? I was able to find the restaurant in Google Maps. It's called Nhà Hàng Trọng Khách.

VIETNAM, HANOI: Second part of my visit to Hanoi's Cobra village where they specialize in various snake dishes. After choosing the Cobra and watching them prepare it in episode 1, it was time to taste the fruits of their labor. They turned one Cobra into 6 different dishes all unique in both looks and taste. What I was eating and how I was supposed to eat it I had no idea. Luckily other patrons of the same restaurant came over to my table and were more than eager to explain each dish.

VIETNAM, HANOI: After downing the beating snake heart raw, I felt like a new man. That called for a change in appearance. But to what? As I walked into the reception of my hotel it suddenly hit me: Go Gwyneth! (you'll see why in the vid) So off I went to the nearest hair dresser for a total hair makeover. So what color did I go for? And how much did it cost? And how good are the hairdressers in Hanoi, Vietnam's capital?

VIETNAM, HANOI: Driving home from the snake village I came across and awesome area along the highway full of barbers. But one in particular caught my eye. He had a chair set up in the middle of the road next to a tree. Although I didn't need a hair-cut nor wanted a shave I realized I had to check this place out. It's not like any of that has stopped me before right? So the next morning it was off to find this novelty of a street barber. But where was he? I had forgotten the location. After driving around for an hour I finally figured it out.

BA VI, VIETNAM: In the 19th century Vietnam became a part of France's colonial empire. This legacy can be seen in the architecture in a number of French quarters across Vietnam's major cities. That this legacy extended to more remote forests and mountains though was news to me. I was therefore mighty excited when I found out about an abandoned church in a forest a couple of hours drive from Vietnam's capital Hanoi. This being the monsoon season hough my journey there was not as easy as I had hoped.

BA VI, VIETNAM: After trekking up the mountain through the thick monsoon fog and investigating some secret colonial ruins, I was aching for a swim. But where was the waterfall? I drove around for an hour and all I found was an angry forest patrol who fined me $3 for trespassing around a lake. As I drove away in disgust I saw a fairground ride in what appeared to be someone's backyard! A theme park on private property? I couldn't believe my eye! I was in Vietnam's jungle after all. As I drove around the property however it turned out it to be huge! This was a legitimate theme park built around a waterfall. But there was a catch....

HANOI, VIETNAM: There are luxury hotels and then there are budget hotels. In Asia however there's yet another type of accommodation for those on a tight budget: capsule hotels. Invented in Japan, this hotel type is now spreading across Asia to satisfy the insatiable thirst for budget accommodation amongst European and Asian travelers alike. This particular hotel I stayed at is located in Vietnam's capital Hanoi and has only been open for a week. Naturally it was in immaculate condition. But what was it actually like to reside in one of these capsules? And when normal hotel rooms in Hanoi are so cheap, can one justify to stay in a capsule when savings are in the single digits? This and more as I tour Vietnam's newest capsule hotel.

PHILIPPINES, MANILLA: Whilst doing some shopping in Manilla's biggest market, Divisoria, I stumbled into a guy who had made his own motorbike from a boat engine. This I had to film! As I started to roll tape my market excursion quickly turned into an interesting little culinary experience. A woman selling some kind of meatballs caught my attention and I decided to try her food. Struggling with food poisoning I'd caught at a roof top restaurant the night before, I was feeling mighty under the weather and this chicken would power me up! There was only one problem. I didn't understand her very well and when I tried to severely overpay using a 500 not (as it was all I had) the meal nearly fell through.... Luckily the mic on my camera works far better than my ear under such chaotic and extremely noisy circumstances and caught the whole train-wreck of a conversation on tape for you guys to hear. The only problem was that there was no functional ATMs in Burgos. Me and Tim thus hopped on a bus to the next town. An hour later in unbearable heat we arrived only to find yet another cash machine that did not take MasterCard. 5 machines and one actual bank branch visit later and still no luck. Diner’s Club or Visa were the only options. After searching through the whole city we finally found the one machine that accepts MasterCard and the cash was secured. The next evening we ventured over to the village only to find the house empty. This architectural masterpiece has stood the test of time and you can still walk on top as well as inside it in the year 2019. So that's exactly what I did whilst giving you guys a little tip on how to enjoy history to the max on your travels.

ITALY, FLORENCE: Tuscany's capital is world famous for its Bistecca Alla Fiorentina. A type of beef that isn't necessarily slayed locally but instead derived from a special breed of bull and prepared in a specific manner which dates back to the middle ages. Traditionally they are served extremely rare! As a huge connoisseur of beef, this was naturally something I had to try and film for you guys. I therefore started sampling various restaurants across Florence over two weeks ago in search of the finest T-bone cut in he city. In all honesty I've yet to run into a bad steak anywhere in this city. But there is one restaurant I keep coming back to that offers the best value in terms of price and quality: Trattoria Dall'Oste. Hence why I choose this restaurant to showcase Florence's greatest dish. So did I defeat the mighty 1.6kg T-bone steak put in front of me? And were I able to walk afterwards?

I was an Italian Master Chef

ITALY, FLORENCE: The most challenging meal I've indulged in thus far in Florence, wasn't the 1.6 kg T-bone steak but Lisa's Lampredotto. It's not that the sandwich wasn't good. It really was quite tasty! It was more about having the knowledge of what I was eating and somehow muster the willpower to keep munching down on it despite my better judgement. Having seen my Lampredotto video, Martina, Florence's greatest tour guide, challenged me to sample some even more exotic ancient meals of Florence. So down to the 130 year old street food market known locally as Mercato di San Lorenzo I went. Objective: devour the most daring meals the city has got to offer. But first I was lured into taking the job as an Italian street food master chef! My first order, Panino con l'arrosto (whatever that is).

CATANIA, SICILY: Arriving in Catania by bus from Palermo, we drove past the railway station on the way to the hotel. It looked like a lively little eating area with lots of Sicilian street food options for the intriguing tongue. The next evening after an unfortunate meal at the hotel during my first evening in the city, I was ready to try the local Sicily street food delicacy: the mighty horse meat sandwich. You'd think that given her frequent hissy fits, the latest one which was yesterday, this volcano would be off limits to the general public. But that isn't the case. Mount Etna is Catania's biggest tourist attraction and a mighty entertaining one I must add. Most of them can be found on Booking.com or by simply wandering the streets of the city you just arrived in. Airbnb in Italy is great for expensive apartments in prime locations though. Almost always more expensive than a hotel in the same street, the apartments I've found for rent across this country come with only one major advantage: space. Peru isn't what I expected

PERU, CUSCO; After Bolivia I wasn't quite sure what to expect from Peru. But given the high rates for hotels I did suspect Peru to be far more developed and better at setting their cities up for tourism. Once I got past a ridiculously inefficient immigration system, my initial thoughts were confirmed.

Peru, or at least Cusco, is lightyears ahead when it comes to development of its tourism sector compared to her neighbor to the east. Given the proximity of this city to one of the world's most sought after tourist attractions, Machu Pichu, that should come as no surprise but still I didn't expect Peruvians and the architecture of Cusco to be as pleasant as they both are.

So after finding a taxi and something to eat it was time to check-in to my hotel. Even hostels were quite pricey when I checked on Booking.com so I knew that a hotel room even in the $60+ category wouldn't mean much. I therefore opted for a boutique hotel at just under $70. But was it worth it?

PERU, PISAC: Whilst no mountain filled with historical ruins I've ever encountered could rival the sheer aesthetic beauty of Machu Picchu, said site does come with two major drawbacks:

1. There will be thousands of other people there during YOUR visit which somewhat puts a dampener on your ability to enjoy the site

2. Huge parts of it are off bounds to tourists which puts a mega dampener on your ability to enjoy the Inca ruins. At the Inca ruins of Pisac, which for the record encompasses a site which is 4 times larger than Macchu Picchu, you will not encounter any of these issues. I was the only one there for the first 2 hours of my hike.

PERU, SACRED VALLEY: Ollantaytambo was an important gateway city to Machu Picchu even 600 years ago. Today tourists pass through this town either by rail or road to the world famous Inca ruins. But this city have some pretty impressive ruins dating back to the heyday of the Inca empire as well.

Due to her strategic significance the city contained a fort which along with some agricultural terraces can be seen up close even today. Naturally this was something I had to investigate.

PERU, SACRED VALLEY: As I was making my way through Peru's famed Sacred valley, after the city of Urubamba, I started heading over the mountains towards Cusco. Having not had any breakfast as usual (because hotel breakfasts ALWAYS suck) I had decided to put my food intake on a hold until I'd reached my final destination.

Those plans however flew out the window as I spotted a delicious juicy pork being roasted on the street as I came around a bend. After 3 weeks in the country it was finally time for a genuine Peru street food experience and my first pork o'clock!

PERU, SACRED VALLEY: The second last thing I expected to see driving through Peru's Sacred Valley were markets selling sweaters and other local products popular amongst tourists. But seeing as I did come across two, I decided to stop at them both and see what good they were peddling. At the second market, I came across a group of women who at first weren't overly eager to interact with me, but after a minute insinuated that the nuts they were cutting was for human consumption. So I decided to give them a go....

PERU, CUSCO: Before I head to Lima for the Copa Libertadores final tomorrow, I had some things to do in Cusco. I started the day with the Livestream giveaway on Instagram which was chaotic to say the least but highly entertaining. If you missed it don't worry. We can make this a monthly event. After finding a winner from Philippines, India and Ireland I went to the Cusco post office with Cyrus to ship the goods to the respective winners. Only the costs weren't exactly as expected....

After the headache of the Cusco post office I headed off to the gym before I gave you guys a tour of my hotel room and headed off to the market to do some last minute shopping.

Peru's Worst Pizza

PERU, CUSCO: Having had nothing but poor overpriced meals (with two possible exceptions) in restaurants throughout Peru my expectations weren't exactly sky high as I ordered a pizza from the hotel I'd just arrived at in Lima.

In fact I'd promised myself to not eat at a restaurant again whilst here. But three things made me change my mind. First, I had not had time breakfast in Cusco before my flight to Lima, and was hence starving. Second, the boutique hotel I'd just checked into was so ridicilously pricey that I thought, surely they can cook a decent meal. Third, and most importantly, the restaurant menu was dominated by Western fast food option. In other words, my kind of menu!

So I decided to give pizza in Peru yet another go! Needless to say, that's something I shouldn't have done. . . for nothing could have prepared me for the disaster that showed up when room service came knocking at my door! This was hands down the worst pizza I've ever had!

PERU, CUSCO: Having been to Brazil during the World Cup in 2014 and thus knowing that football in this part of the world mean one hell of a party outside the stadium before the game, hopes were sky high as I broke into my Federal Reserves to secure myself a ticket for the Copa Libertadores final in Lima Between Argentina's River Plate and Brazil's Flamengo. This was essentially like a national team match between Brazil vs. Argentina seeing a Peru's capital was full of people who'd flown in to support their team from two said nations.

There was only one problem. I had to go an pick up the ticket at a designated area before I could make my way to the match. And this little footnote , plus the organizers misinformation about what personal items were allowed into the stadium, pretty much ruined the whole Copa Libertadores final experience for me...

MEXICO CITY: I've always rated Mexican food up there along with Italian (and recently Indian) as my favorite food. But seeing as I'd never been to Mexico before I'd never tried the world famous Mexican Taco on its home turf.

Kukris come in many shapes and sizes. Some are ceremonial. Others are used for hunting and in combat. This shop had it all so I felt compelled to investigate and make a purchase.

The two biggest merge into one another and become indistinguishable from one another as street after street is lined with shops and stalls selling t-shirt, knives, shoes and local souvenirs. Surprisingly though given its size and the incredible number of people who wander around here bargain hunting, the noise level of this place isn't anywhere near what you'd expect in the equivalent market of India or Vietnam.

Still, given the chaos that reigns across this market it's one of the most intriguing I've ever seen.

SRI LANKA, GALLE: The country I enjoyed touring the most in 2019 was Sri Lanka. The distances between tourist attractions are short and the country is full of incredible characters who make you feel welcome at not only your local Daru shop but upscale hotels as well. I therefore decided to kick-off the 2020 travel season by checking in to a luxury 5 star hotel in the old Dutch fort city of Galle.

After an absolutely horrendous flight where I was squeezed in next to two mega amazonian babushkas from Poland, I needed a serious deep sleep to recover. I therefore decided to splurge on the most luxurious hotel I could find.

My choice fell on Le Grand Galle, roughly 3 hours by car from the airport north of Colombo. With a private swimming pool accessible from my bedroom window, my own beachfront backyard and a24/7 gym i figured this was exactly what I deserved. So did this Sri Lankan boutique hotel live up to the high expectations set by those I stayed at in 2019?

SRI LANKA, GALLE: Looking for things to do on the outskirts of town in Google Maps, I came across a Sea Turtle sanctuary operation. A family, with the help of volunteers and donations, have set up Sea turtle shelter on the beach where they nurse injured sea turtles back to health as well as rescue newly laid eggs from the dangers that lurch on the beach.

They dig-up and collect thousands of eggs and re-bury them within a fenced area, nursing them until they hatch. Then they set them free back in the ocean. They also help sea turtles damaged by fishing nets and propellers heal from their injuries (when possible).

Join me as I tour their facilities north of Galle city on Sri Lanka's southern coastline and get a fascinating look into this incredible operation.

On my visit the day before, he invited me back to release some newly hatched baby sea turtles back into the Indian ocean. Naturally this was something I wasn't gonna miss.

After meeting his whole family who'd just arrived back from a village visit we ventured over to the holding tanks and picked out 10 lucky turtles. Then we walked down to the beach for the main event: seeing which of these sea turtles were natural born swimmers and which was not! On the beach we also ran into a mega iguana, the main threat to these sea turtles before they hatch, as well as a fresh track made by a mother turtle who had just buried her eggs on the beach the night before.

For a finale I got to hand feed some of the grown sea turtles.

They seemed to understand but just to make sure I brought a local driver down to the beach to ask if I could truly join. The answer was in the affirmative.

So at 6 o'clock before the sun was even up I rocked up on black rock beach as the locals call it, to begin my new career as a Sri Lankan fisherman or Lobster diver to be precise. Little did I know that a few hours later I'd earned the title of the nation's least seaworthy fisherman of all time...

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS: Never have I ever encountered a hotel breakfast I've enjoyed. With no burgers, pizza or pasta bolognese on the menu, how could I? When I saw the price of the breakfast at Hilton airport hotel in Amsterdam was a whooping $30, and urge to investigate it came over me. So what did the breakfast consists of and is it worth the money?

$450 AirBnb Luxury Houseboat Amsterdam

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS: The famous canals of Amsterdam are littered with houseboats in all shapes and sizes. Some are for rent but most are occupied by locals who've made a home for themselves on the water. Staying in one of these was top of my list of things to experience whilst in Amsterdam, so I opted for the priciest AirBnb houseboat I could find. A hotel room in this city is not cheap anyway so I figured it'd be worth it to pay a little extra to get the full riverboat experience. So what does the houseboat look like inside? Is it as spacious and comfortable as a hotel room in the same price range or a normal house? Can you swim in the rivers? And last but not least, what is in my suitcase when I travel? After the houseboat tour I unpack everything.

If you wish to rent the same house boat for your Amsterdam trip search for Houseboat-Apartment Sumatra. It is available through a number of different hotel booking sites.

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS: Cheap to mid-range hotel rooms in the centre of Amsterdam offer zero value for money and will leave you regretting you booked a room in the first place. The high range rooms, meaning those that cost $150+, in comparison, are not as overpriced as they deliver on the promise implicit in the price point to be better in terms of amenities and professionalism of the staff. As a guy who stays in hotel rooms (or AirBnb apartments) all year round, I often find the complete opposite to be the case in the vast majority of the world, with low to mid-range hotel rooms offer superior value.

This tour of the Craftsmen boutique hotel in the centre of Amsterdam will hopefully suffice to show you why...

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS: The houseboats in Amsterdam up for rent on sites like Airbnb.com and Booking.com don't come cheap. In fact, they cost 3-4 times the equivalent sized hotel room. However, seeing as living on a genuine Amsterdam houseboat is an integral part to a first visit to the city, what choice does a tourist have?

Having stayed at a fairly modern and luxurious Airbnb houseboat earlier this week, I felt I'd missed out on the real deal. So I started searching for an actual houseboat that floats and has a more authentic feel to it. Sadly these boats cost no less and all of them have a 2 day stay minimum rule. So off I went to once again embrace the Amsterdam river houseboat lifestyle.... only this time as a carbon neutral flower power Amsterdam cat lady named Karen.....

MARKEN, NETHERLANDS: When I go shopping for shoes, the choice usually stands between Nike or Adidas. In the Netherlands however, it's less about the brand but more about the material; or even which type of wood. For the Dutch are famous for making shoes from European Willow trees or yellow poplar, called wooden clogs or Klompen!

But how on earth do you distinguish a quality wooden pair of shoes from one that will break with the first stomp of a cow's hoof? What is a fair price for a high quality authentically handmade pair of Dutch wooden shoes? Where can you buy these shoes? And how exactly are they made?

To learn more about how the Dutch made their wooden clogs in the olden days as well as buy my very own first ever pair, I set out to the stunning village of Marken, a 20 minute drive from Amsterdam for an unusual shopping spree.

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS: Amsterdam are full of boats cruising around with tourists eager to experience the maze of man made canals that makes this city such a unique experience. There are large boat that fits 100 people or more per journey. And then there is Ambolux, the family run company where YOU can be the only passenger with your own private captain if you so wish. Here is the full video of my luxury boat your of the Amsterdam canals.

■ There are many canal boat tours advertised around Amsterdam, but when I asked my hotel for the one they'd recommend for the ultimate in luxury and service, they came back with Ambolux. It's a family run company which has been going for 5 years. The manager at my hotel told me a lot of the boat tour operators approach the hotel asking to cooperate. Having thus tried several different ones herself, so she could in good conscience recommend one to her hotel guests, she concluded that Ambolux was the best.

Coz never have I seen a a market like the one I stumbled upon today in the centre of Mexico City.

Sprawled out in a traffic intersection which is very much open for cars and motorbikes at all times, this market has everything from counterfeit perfumes to face-masks, dumbells and a live mariachi band.

HIDALOGO, MEXICO: Apart from the mega city of Mexico City and the world famous resorts of Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, I know nothing about the rest of the country. And neither did my travel companion Mr. Bald or Simon Wilson. So we decided to rectify this situation by hiring a car and going on an epic roadtrip to explore the Mexico less travelled.

On the way I made sure I forced them both, to sample the local cuisine, mainly street tacos and other street food we came across on the road despite their objections. After acquiring the Nissan Micro, and re-christening Mr. Simon to Mrs. Simone, we came across what looked like a make shift collection of old shipping containers which had been turned into a little street tacos kitchen.

Out of the 6 taco street food stall I tried in Mexico city, only 1 was good enough for me to want to go back for round two. So what about the roadside food in rural Mexico? Does the tacos measure up to my impeccable standards? YES!

TANZANIA, TANGANYIKA: I used to wonder what it'd be like to live in a pre-industrial revolution style community without electricity, running water or even showers and bathrooms. Never really thinking I'd get the opportunity to try this out I'd stopped running this thought experiment until I actually got the chance here in Tanganyika to live this out in real life.

Granted the first couple of days I sort of eased myself into it as I still had to treck into the nearest 'town' (if you can even call it that) to get my tribal outfit sorted and stock up on drinking water. This is common on Zanzibar. The Rickshaw drivers I've spoken to also do this. Not one of them have said he owns his vehicle. Instead they rent them for 15 000 Tanzanian shilling per day. They spend another 15 000 on gasoline. Anything above 30 000 is thus profits.

After confirming that Faki was also doing this, by having the bartender call him to ask about where he had bought his motorbike, I tried to find a motorbike dealer. But that's easier said than done in Zanzibar. Type motorbike dealer into Google maps and you get some results, but when you go to those shops not a single one of them actually have motorbikes for sale.

Making African Car Tyre Shoes

TANZANIA, TANGANYIKA: Life out in the bush in Tanzania can be dangerous. But it's not just the wildlife you need to pay close attention to. Little cuts and scrapes from thorns and branches you step on can seriously mess up your foot. It's also super painful. I stepped on such a thorn on Zanzibar and it went straight though my thick running nike shoe (the heel to be precise) and deep into my foot.

The local Masai tribes however have come up with a solution for this: make shoes from old car tyres. These shoes are not only super durable. They last for decades according to the people I've spoken to who've grown up wearing them. But they're also super strong and nothing that's grows out in the bush will be able to pierce through your car tyre shoes.

But first we had to get there. That meant driving the RV over a road that at one stage went above 9900 feet. Coming down on the other side Louise spotted a sign which said scenic waterfall. TEXAS, SAN ANTONIO: There's a famous saying in Norway for situations that appears excessively wild or out of control: - Det er helt Texas her jo! Literally, it's total Texas here!

In Norway, Texas is a euphemism for a free wheeling place where anything goes. All my life I've heard Norwegians use this phrase, including myself, without actually having met a single Northman who've ever walked the soil of the Lone Star Republic. The saying likely dates back to the days of the gun slinging cowboys of the old Wild Wild West and has naturally stood the test of time as nothing is scarier to a government worshipping contemporary Norwegian than just that; people with guns ruling themselves and not waiting for orders on what to think say and do from some central authority in a far away city.

BUFFALO, WYOMING: Having lived on the road for 20+ years it takes a lot for me to be impressed by a hotel room. Hotels, especially in the USA, are generally a complete ripp-off and borderline scam considering what they charge for a simple night's stay in a spartan 4 by 4 meter soulless room.

The Occidental hotel of Buffalo Wyoming, which dates back to the 1870s and still has all the original interior intact, bucks this trend. In fact, this is the best and most unique hotel I have ever stayed at regardless of country!

It is so good it's worth flying to Wyoming just to stay here if you have an interest in the history of America's Old Wild Wild West. But it is not available through the usual booking sites such as hotels.com or booking.com

The Historic Occidental Hotel of Buffalo Wyoming make a living solely based upon their excellent reputation and word of mouth. Hence if you wanna book a stay here you've got to go through their website direct or give them a call.

LAS VEGAS, THE STRIP: Las Vegas hotel rooms are notoriously expensive. Gone are the days where you just put a couple of Dollars on a crazy wheels slot machine and your accommodation is free. Stuck between paying the sky high peak summer prices for a mediocre budget hotel room at a classic centre of the strip hotel like Flamingo, which wanted $220 a night, and the semi-luxurious The Cosmopolitan for just $100 more, I opted for the latter.

Very few Las Vegas hotel rooms have a balcony like The Cosmo, plus I've never stayed at this end of the strip before. A night of reveling in a luxurious jacuzzi overlooking the famous fountains of The Bellagio would do me good I reasoned....

So did my room at The Cosmopolitan justify the insane price tag?

I expected the highlight of said tour to be the many mountain-top Venetian castles that still stand proud and strong along the coastline of Cyprus and Mr. Simon Wilson diving into the street food scene. Whilst the one medieval fortress I visited was indeed impressive, and Simon nearly overdosed on McDonald's Street Big Mac menu, I ended up aborting the tour to set up an appointment with a woman I ran into that first day who told me she makes mosaics! And can I order my very own custom mosaic of whatever motif I like? I had a million questions and hence spent the next week figuring it all out. Here's how it went!

NEPAL, SYAPRU BESI: The Himalayas, home of Mount Everest, also have many lesser known peaks and mountain plateaus that are far more accessible to the layman trekker. One of these is the Kyankin Ri mountain top, which is accessible by foot if you're willing to walk for the 3 days it takes to hike up there. Having never done anything other than single day mountain hikes, I felt up for the challenge. But first I needed to get up to the Langtang National Park where the gorge you'll walk through to get to the Langtang mountain range begins.

That meant a grueling 8 hour bus journey on what is surely the worst road I've ever driven on. But when I rocked up at Kathmandu's central bus station at 5AM to board the Himalayan Express Bus I had no idea about the adventure that lay ahead...

EPAL, HIMALAYA: With Snickers, Chow Mein and Gongo aboard, I was ready to once again soldier up the Himalayan mountainside. But for how long? And to where? I had no real end goal in sight. If I found a nice lodge I'd simply set up shop for the night. If not, I'd just keep hiking up. And hike I did as the hours flew by. As I kept climbing, the scenery kept changing fueling my thirst for further exploration. The spectacular Himalayan Lord of the Ringsesque forests, rivers, cliffs, wild deers and ruins of old abandoned settlements had me so intrigued, I wanted to see what's around the next corner, regardless of how much my legs told me they wanted no further part in this trek.

Already at 7:00AM, just two hours after leaving Bamboo Lodge, I had been so exhausted, thoughts of setting up shop at the first lodge possible had started creeping in. Somehow I had kept going. OAXACA, MEXICO: Oaxaca is a shopper's paradise! There are markets and street vendors everywhere. Most of the stores are also really unique with local crafts and products you won't find in malls or abroad. I was tempted to do a shopping video just going to fixed price shops. However that would mean I'd be missing out on the Mexican bargaining experience. Nothing beats a good old fashioned market bargaining experience as far as I am concerned. So I decided to go to Oaxaca's Benito Juarez market in the centre of town. (not to be confused with the tyrannical 21st November food market which have mask tyrants at every entrance and don't let free people in... but I digress).

At the Benito Juarez market I had a pretty simple plan. Fill up my shopping bag with goodies... then find a deserving local to give it to.

That however proved somewhat more difficult than initially anticipated...

UKUWELA, SRI LANKA: Every since I randomly ran into the genius that is Sri Lanka's Fine White Wine Man on a run to the local liquor store 4 years ago, I've dreamt of running into him again, to actually sit down for a drink this time. I planned on visiting him again 3 years ago but world events took a turn for the worse.

So upon touchdown in Colombo, Sri Lanka's capital, I immediately got my hands on a motorbike, so I could journey up to Ukuwela where the last sighting of the fine white wine man occured some 3 years ago.

Does he still live there? Is he still into white wine? Is the wine store even still there?

HIKKADUWA, SRI LANKA: Some hotels deliver beyond expectations. This luxury 3 bedroom hotel room with a private pool on your balcony overlooking Sri Lanka's Hikkaduwa beach certainly falls into that category. At $200 a night, seeing as you could technically have 4 people sleep here, each even in their own room (even 5 if someone's willing to sleep on the balcony), I'd even classify it as a bargain given how spacious and well equipped it is.

After a tour of this amazing luxury beachfront hotel, I set out for Hikkaduwa's fish market to buy fresh tuna and chase down Freeman, the owner of the Airbnb I stayed at exactly 3 years ago this week. Business for Airbnb owners and people employed in Sri Lanka's tourism industry have been incredibly rough ever since I last visited. So how is Freeman and his family doing? COLOMBO, SRI LANKA: Four years ago I visited Pettah market in Colombo for the first time. The market is huge, incredibly cheap and have all kinds of fake western brands on offer. Shoes, bags, polo shirts, Levi's jeans, adidas shoes... you name it, they sell it.

Since it had been so long since I filmed here, I thought it was about time your favorite German embarked on another shopping spree to hone his bargaining skills.

Too often though in my market videos I wander around and simply buy random stuff without any sense or purpose. Well not today.

My goal for this shopping journey was to spend exactly $100 US and see just how many things I could get before setting off towards the railway tracks to give everything away to someone who deserves it. Given how cheap this market truly is... it actually turned into quite the struggle to spend it all.

What Google Maps failed to mention was the price of a beer in the minibar at the aforementioned luxury hotel... hence why I cruised back into the nearest town after checking in to buy some entertaining beverages at a more affordable price.

INDIA, CHENNAI: Planing on surveying the lands of Chennai extensively in a single day I decided Iw as in the market for a bicycle. But not just any bicycle! The more rusty, ancient and archaic the better. A couple of days ago I ran into just such a cycle and tried to buy it. The owner refused to sell, possibly because he didn't understand I was being serious or as I wanted to complete the purchase using Dollars.

KOLKATA, INDIA: Sitting in Delhi pondering where to go next on this mini recognisance tour I'm currently on in India in order to ascertain whether a more colourful exciting state than Rajasthan exists, it dawned on me that I've been to the South, West and North of this country but not the East. Looking on the map Kolkatta as it is now called, is right on the border with Bangladesh. It's got plenty of history and a huge population. I figured why not and boarded a flight the next morning headed east.

I didn't know what I was going to do in Calcutta, other than cycle around to try food and see what the city looks like. As often happens though when time is limited your plans go out the window and you end up with a mixed bag of unexpected but fun memories....

Landslide Trek Nepal: Himalayan Rainy Season

HIMALAYA, MANASLU: Trekking during the rainy season in Nepal, when landslides are as ubiquitous as McDonald's restaurants in USA, is a hazardous ordeal. These landslides take entire mountain sides down with them, including of course any trail or road that may be in it's path.

I knew this before I set out on this trek up the Himalayan Manaslu circuit and I was indeed looking forward to it. But once I saw these landslides up close they were even more fun to traverse than anticipated.

Some of them however were so wild they looked and I thought them impossible to cross....

HIMALAYA, MANASLU: Having survived the most treacherous landslide I've ever had the pleasure of scaling followed up by spending a night in an old classic Nepali potato attic, the trek continues further up the Manaslu circuit. We set out as early as possible as we didn't know exactly just how far up the mountain we were going this day.

One thing I did know though; during rainy landslide season in the Himalayas... there is a right and a wrong path! Being hungry for adventure I obviously once again made sure we ended up taking a wrong turn and land on the most treacherous path possible thus ensuring we could expect the unexpected....

HIMALAYA, MANASLU: In the villages of the mountains of Nepal, a locally brewed drink called Roxy is incredibly popular. It looks fairly simple to brew as long as you have the proper cauldrons, enough firewood and ground down corn or millet.

As a huge fan of this beverage, I've always been curious as to the exact method of its production. As I was preparing to trek the Manaslu circuit earlier this year, I ran into a woman who've been brewing for decades. The method was handed down to her by her father, who in turn learnt it from his father. Village life in the mountains of Nepal is obviously no walk in the park and one of the ways this woman have been able to raise her family despite being a widow, is by brewing and running a bar for local porters and passers by entirely on her own. Fascinated that a foreigner took such a keen interested in how Roxy is made in these remote mountains, she invited me to brew from scratch...

MARPHA, MUSTANG: Nepal, although geographically a rather tiny country perched up on the Himalayan plateau, sandwiched in between India and China, is still home to countless older Kingdoms. One of these is the ancient Kingdom of Mustang which dates back all the way to 1380 and wasn't fully merged into Nepal politically speaking before 2008.

Although it doesn't technically exist as a sovereign state anymore, and it's capital Lo Manthang was in Upper Mustang, it's borders extended past the little town of Marpha, whose ancient Thakali culture is very much alive today. Religion, customs, architecture and food have been remarkably well kept alive here in all its glory.

Some of the buildings in Marpha, although of modest construction, contain materials that are 400 years old. The city is also home to a Tibetan community which adds to the history on full display here.

HIMALAYA, NEPAL: Right on the border between lower and upper Mustang, in what is known as the dessert of Nepal, sits a remarkable little village. It looks more like a favela than a village or town. Where one house ends and the other begins is impossible to discern. The rooftops and alleyways blend into one another so you never really know when you're walking on someone's rooftop or an actual alley. It's essentially a village with the aesthetics of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro high up in the Himalayas. Naturally this was something I had to investigate.... but how do you get to this Himalayan Favela when all you see is a sign but no path?

That was no easy task... especially seeing as I started of (as usual) with a horrible wrong turn which turned out to be a near fatal mistako.....

BHAKTAPUR, NEPAL: The Kukri knife, which is actually more akin to a sword despite Nepalis usually preferring to call it by the former, is Nepal's national weapon. It's also one of the most difficult knives to make due to it distinctive curved shape said to mimic the mountains of Nepal's Himalayan mountain range.

Finding a blacksmith who not only knows how to make one, but uses the best and strongest materials thus ensuring you'll end up with a top quality knife, was no easy task. Half a year ago I failed doing so. This time in Nepal I tried again. The first blacksmiths we visited were using old melted down bicycle wheels and melted down scrap metal to make their knives leading to a low quality product.

By chance, with only 3 days left in Nepal, my friend stumbled upon Mr. Purna from Bhojpure's workshop, whose grandfather once made a knife for the King of Nepal and who taught him the tricks of the blacksmithing trade.

Sure they are for the most part memorable and ultra luxurious but you're paying through the nose for your hotel room. Leela Palace Hotel in Chennai was different. Although a 5 star hotel, I actually felt I got great value for the money I spent. From the breakfast buffet, to the gym, pool and other restaurants. The amenities, the service and everything at The Leela Palace was unrivalled and offered exceptional value for money.

Hence what was supposed to be a two day stay, ended up becoming a week of incredible wining and dining at the beachfront in Chennai's biggest city Tamil Nadu.

I needed another night to revel in five star luxury to recover from my flight. Preferably somewhere with several restaurants, a gym and a swimming pool.

A quick search on Booking.com lead me to Conrad Hotel, a five star sky-rise hotel owned by the Hilton group. The price was high but it is what it is. Luxury is never cheap so I decided to go for it. My goal for the day was to spend over $1000 USD on living life to the fullest.

To make the day more interesting I decided to take the metro to the hotel. That proved easier said than done....

USA, WYOMING: It's been 3 years since my first visit to Wyoming, America's least populated state with just 580 000 residents. Home to Yellowstone national park, most people who visit tend to go there for that experience. As for me I was anxious to book a stay at my favorite hotel in the entire world: the historic wild west hotel which still goes by the name The Occidental.

Presidents and outlaws have stayed here over the years and although it only ranks as a 2 star hotel, no luxury resort can beat the character and feel of this hotel.

But The Occidental was only the first stop on my journey. My main goal for the trip was to conquer Fireball Peak in winter. Would there be too much snow and ice to climb the hill?

Would the attack parrot still fiercely defend his territory? Would it simply be too cold?

I had many questions and very few answers....

The only way to find out was to start trekking

NEW ORLEANS, USA: My main problem with most American cities is the lack of a proper European style downtown walkable historic area with tons of restaurants, bars and classic buildings. As soon as I enter New Orleans' French Quarter and wandered down the famed Bourbon street, I realised this is one of those cities that bucks the usual American trend of downtown being dead.

Full of life and fantastic architecture, New Orleans has hands down the coolest American downtown area I've ever come across. Finding a historic building to stay in proved a difficult difficult task though with nothing exceptional showing up when searching through booking.com. After extensive research I was pointed in the direction of the Olivier House, a historic boutique hotel made up of 5 family homes built in the 1880s. This turned out to be a gem of hotel and the second best I've stayed in in USA.

NEW ORLEANS, USA: Walking around New Orleans' French Quarter in the evening I saw an awesome store named Antique Guns & Swords. The next morning I loaded up with freshly minted Federales Reservos and went antique hunting in this excellent store. An hour later and extremly happy with my purchases, I decided to go celebrate my antiques with more Absinthe together with Mr. Noodles the Korean hobo I magnanimously housed and fed in the previous New Orleans episode.

That of course turned out to be the start of a rather entertaining booze filled evening up and down New Orlean's French Quarter and of course Bourbon street.

USA, LAS VEGAS: Every time I've visited Las Vegas I ended up staying on The Strip where most of the mega hotels like The Cosmopolitan and Caesar's Palace are located. My hotel of choice have usually been Treasure Island as it's the budget friendlier option. Despite staying on The Strip, I always ended up spending most of my time in the downtown Las Vegas area known as The Freemont Experience. I like the blackjack tables there better and also the entire street has an awesome vibe with tons of characters.

This time I therefore decided to stay in the downtown area so I didn't have to waste time and money on taxis back and forth there everyday. Some of the hotels in downtown Las Vegas are 80 years old as this is where this city truly began. A couple of years ago a new hotel sprang up called Circa. I've played blackjack in there before and it looked like a nice and modern hotel so I decided to give it a go.

ITALY, VENICE: The rags to ultra riches story of The Venetian Republic is unlike any other in European history. Refugees from the Roman Empire, fleeing the turmoil created by the power vacuum of Rome's waning ability to fend off endless barbarian incursions, turned a bunch of uninhabitable islands into the greatest and richest nation and finally empire in all of Europe.

How did the Venetians do it?

That is what I will explore as I take in what Venice, which is today just a city in Italy, has become in 2024. Venice is now a haven for tourists where one can truly take in what renaissance Italy was truly about.

The classic Venetian carnival still exists along with local artisans making traditional masks from scratch. Murano's glassmaking tradition also continues, possibly stronger than ever. La Serenissima lives on!

So tag along as I investigate the history of Venice from the year A.D. 500 all the way up to 2024

VIETNAM, HANOI: Finding a hotel to stay anywhere in the world is a hit or miss operation. The area, noise level, cleanliness, state of the property vs. the photos you saw online and so on can leave you regretting your choice of accommodation which you may now be locked into for a week as you pre-paid before your travels.

In Vietnam you can add to the hotel equation that walking in to the reception without a booking from Booking.com, Agoda.com or Hotels.com will leave you with a vastly better price for the hotel room than if you had booked from the comfort of your living room before flying to Vietnam. At least 20 0 30% discount can be had by simply walking in and asking for a room in the reception.

That's not the case in for example USA where the online price for hotels are always better than walking in to the hotel with a reservation.

$1000 Luxury Vietnam Cruise

HANOI, VIETNAM: Top of my to do list when returning to Vietnam this year was to visit Ha Long Bay. As Vietnam's top tourist attraction I truly didn't know what to expect. I wanted to try and live on a traditional house boat but that proved a difficult undertaking.

I therefore decided to book a $500 suite on an overnight luxury cruise boat. If that sounds like a steep price, please note that this is low season and that is a heavily discounted rate. Normally this luxury suite would sell for $8-900. Expectation were thus naturally high.

I've always wanted to do a large cruise ship sail but found the prices and prospective accommodation to offer horrible value. This two day one night offer on a smaller boat however seemed to offer that elusive cruise ship value I've been looking for.

So what was the luxury President Suite like? How was dinner? And what about the rest of the ship?

That and much more in today's vlog from Ha Long Bay in Vietnam.

HA LONG BAY, VIETNAM: Whilst on the luxury cruise of Ha Long Bay yesterday we spotted several permanent homes out in the ocean but close to the islands so that you could swim ashore. These Vietnamese fishing communities have been a feature of the HA Long bay region and nearby island inlets for 700 years.

These families grow clams and catch fish for the most part. But some do sell trinkets and food to tourists. I remember seeing on a travel TV show many years ago that it was possible to rent one of these traditional homes out in the water.

Whilst on the boat cruising around Ha Long bay I started to search for a way to make such an adventure happen. So as soon as the boat hit the port I set off again on yet another Vietnam island adventure.

These are not tourist traps or set up for that purpose. The floating homes in these fishing villages have been there for 600 years and people live there even today. That is also what makes them so great as it gives foreigners and incredible opportunity to see how people live and thrive out in these coves.

Having only spent one night in this floating village upon my previous visit, I was eager to go back. This time however I was not going to make the mistake of only staying for one night.
