Hotaru es una joven estudiante que a sus 16 años todavía no se ha enamorado nunca y cree que no le pasará nunca. Y entonces conoce a Hananoi, uno de los chicos más populares de su escuela, y quien se le declara en plena clase.

Hotaru empieza a salir con Hananoi a modo de prueba y con fecha límite. Ella todavía no sabe cómo tiene que actuar una novia, pese a que Hananoi le dice que no tiene que esforzarse, que eso ya lo hará él por los dos.

Se acerca el día límite para el periodo de prueba de la relación entre Hotaru y Hananoi, pero resulta que Hananoi cae enfermo y parece que no van a poder pasar juntos el día en Nochebuena como tanto querían.

Tras las Navidades, llega el Año Nuevo, y Hotaru va a celebrarlo al templo con Hananoi y con sus amigas, algo que a él no le hace demasiada gracia. Pese a todo, la joven pareja se va acercando cada vez más y más.

Hotaru lo tiene todo planeado hasta el milímetro para su primera cita con Hananoi, pero ella todavía sigue sin tener claro si realmente está enamorada de él o no.

Yao, una persona muy importante para el pasado de Hotaru, empieza a trabajar en la misma tienda que ella, lo que hace que afloren con mucha intensidad las inseguridades de Hananoi.

Justo en San Valentín, Hotaru empieza a tener claro lo que siente por Hananoi y se lo dice claramente. Pero entonces, lo que sugiere Hananoi deja descolocada a Hotaru, quien se ve obligada a distanciarse temporalmente de él.

Hotaru and Hananoi-kun are closer than ever, but in many ways, they're still navigating the twists and turns of their new relationship. Thankfully, an adorable dog just may help them see new sides to each other!
