Elena is trying to start a new life after a divorce. The feeling of loneliness and melancholy brings her closer to Pavel Vesnin for just one night. Kulachev comes to Elena and declares that he loves Maria Petrovna (Lena’s mother) and intends to ask for her hand. Elena believes that all this is sheer nonsense. Kulachev wants Maria Petrovna to move into his new apartment. After another quarrel, he breaks up with his wife, who decides to take revenge on the homewrecker at any cost.

Kulachev proposes to Maria Petrovna - she just laughs it off. Her granddaughter Alka quarrels with Misha, who is in love with her, and falls off the swing. Grandmother takes Alla to Moscow, to the hospital, where they meet Elena. Kulachev, not finding Maria Petrovna at home, goes to Lena. Near the door he runs into Vesnin, who still does not dare to enter. Meanwhile, Elena finds out about her pregnancy. Kulachev's wife asks the clairvoyant Marfa to help her eliminate her rival. And Marfa turns out to be Maria Petrovna’s sister, with whom they have not communicated for many years. Alka meets a young man – Georgiy.

Alka brings Georgiy to meet his mother. At the same time, Elena tells her daughter about Pavel Vesnin. Everything in Maria Petrovna’s apartment is being arranged for the birth of her grandson. Kulachev and Maria make up - they are together again. Kulachev asks permission to move in with her. Elena gives birth to a boy, but she herself dies during childbirth.

Vesnin's new woman, Tonya, tells him that she is pregnant. Pavel insists on having a child and wants them to be together. Kulachev and Maria Petrovna adopt Elena's child, who is named Pavel in honor of his father. Vesnin decides to visit Elena. In her apartment he finds Alka and Georgiy. Alla informs him about the death of her mother and wants to tell him about Pavlik, but Georgy dissuades her.

Alka comes to Vesnin and, not finding him at home, leaves a note with Tony in which he talks about little Pavlik. Pavel Vesnin comes to Maria Petrovna to look at his son, convincing her that he is not going to take the child away. After some time, it turns out that Alla is carrying twins under her heart. She is met from the maternity hospital by her husband Georgy, Maria Petrovna and Kulachev with Pavlik and the Vesnins with their son...
