New York, 17 septembre 1864. L'inspecteur Corcoran, Corky pour les intimes, est un ex-boxeur qui a été promu au rang d'inspecteur de police du quartier mal famé de Five Points après avoir sauvé le Major Morehouse, riche notable de la ville. 26 septembre 1864. Le corps d´un Irlandais est retrouvé lynché et pendu, et tout semble accuser un Afro-Américain d'être le meurtrier. La famille Morehouse tente de tirer profit de la situation en gardant l´œil sur des parcelles de terre qui pourraient se libérer advenant une nouvelle émeute.

2 octobre 1864. Au cours d´une enquête sur un meurtre, Corcoran découvre une nouvelle preuve liée à la mort mystérieuse de sa fille et à la disparition de sa femme, ainsi qu´un lien personnel tragique avec l´une des femmes notoires de Five Points

11 octobre 1864. Un gang qui projette de voler les familles les plus riches de New York au cours d´une collecte de fonds voit ses plans démasqués. Corcoran doit alors assurer la sécurité de ces familles. La tension monte entre les détectives et leurs supérieurs pendant qu´ils se préparent à protéger l´élite de New York.

16 octobre 1864. Corcoran et O´Brien doivent élucider un double meurtre étrange. Ils en viennent à la conclusion qu´il pourrait s´agir d´une vengeance qui a mal tourné. Morehouse est contrait de prendre une décision qui affectera la sécurité de Five Points.

18 octobre 1864. Corcoran remet en question les décisions qu´il a prises à propos d´Annie. Un groupe d´étrangers de la haute société débarque en ville et fait à Robert Morehouse une offre d´affaires impossible à refuser.

8 novembre 1864. C´est jour d´élections à New York, et Maguire décide de se faire justice. Corcoran est alors contraint de prendre une décision des plus difficiles. Plus tard, il découvre une nouvelle piste surprenante concernant sa femme portée disparue.

24 novembre 1864. Corcoran se retrouve dans de beaux draps le jour du Thanksgiving. Les répercussions des récents meurtres et l´incroyable découverte qui ont suivi l´ont profondément secoué. Morehouse voit ses affaires se compliquer sérieusement lorsque ses associés tentent d´impliquer son père, Norbert.

25 novembre 1864. Corcoran doit faire l’impossible pour sauver sa peau et la ville de New York. En préparation de son combat le plus important depuis les émeutes de la conscription, Corcoran fait équipe avec Robert Morehouse, Eva Heissen et les flics du 6e arrondissement.

February 5, 1865. Five Points remains a bedlam. Young men are dying and disappearing at an alarming rate and a career criminal is terrorizing the Sixth Ward. With pressures from Tammany Hall raining down upon the police force, Detective Kevin Corcoran and the coppers of the Sixth Ward must follow the guidance of returned ward leader, General Brendan Donovan. Meanwhile, Doctor Matthew Freeman visits his mentor and is presented with an attractive offer that will cause a rift in his marriage. Uptown, Robert Morehouse and Elizabeth Haverford make plans for their wedding and Confederate spy Kennedy’s execution. In the tombs, Francis Maguire is set to learn his fate.

As more corpses of young men are found and others continue to disappear, Corcoran leaves no stone unturned in his search for answers. General Brendan Donovan employs unseemly tactics to keep the murders out of the press. Meanwhile, as Sara readies herself to attend a dinner with Frederick Douglass at the Morehouse mansion, Doctor Matthew Freeman makes a drastic decision for the health of his community – forcing her to confront her past. With his fate decided, Maguire must fend for himself and realign his allegiances.

As Corcoran closes in on the Five Points murderers, his loyalties are tested. Francis Maguire embraces his new underworld position. Robert Morehouse and Elizabeth Haverford exchange vows.
