Naruto, Hinata e Kiba accettano una missione apparentemente facile, che consiste nella cattura di un ladro. Dopo essere arrivati nell'ultima città in cui è stato avvistato, scoprono che un cacciatore di taglie, di nome Sazanami, è già sulle sue tracce. Sazanami viene sconfitto dal ladro (che in realtà è un ninja) e solo l'intervento di Naruto permetterà di salvarlo. In seguito si scopre che anche Sazanami è in realtà un criminale ricercato.

Tsunade chiede a Naruto di monitorare Akamaru che ha contratto un virus che lo rende particolarmente aggressivo. Il cane infatti attacca una squadra ninja così Tsunade decide di farlo curare da un team medico. Kiba però rapisce Akamaru e lo porta nella foresta dove però si trasforma in un animale gigantesco pronto ad attaccare tutti. Naruto e Hana tentano di iniettargli un siero per guarirlo ma non ci riescono. Kiba allora cerca di convincere Akamaru a tornare come prima ma viene lo stesso attaccato dal suo animale, che però evita di infliggergli un danno mortale. Alla fine sia Kiba che Akamaru vengono portati in salvo e curati.

Ran wants to kill Menma, upon seeing the mark on his arm, but Neji stands in the way, saying it would be unfair to kill a criminal without any memories of his crimes. Ran finally agrees and performs surgery on Menma, saving his life, but the villagers aren’t as happy. Are they prepared for when foreign shinobi group comes for a second attack?
