一顆直徑約一英里大的彗星正朝著地球而來！這個消息被一個天文學家發現，他急於到天文台把所有數據計算出來，但在慌急之間，卻出了車禍，而此時，一位天文學社的學生裡歐（Elijah Wood 飾）也發現了這顆彗星，他騎著車子出來，經過車禍現場，發現了天文學家手中資料。
