يحكي الفيلم عن إحدى مستعمرات النمل التي يسيطر عليها عصابة من الجراد الشرير والتي تفرض على المستعمرة جمع الحبوب لصالحها مما يفرض على النمل عبئا إضافيا لجمع الحبوب للجراد ثم لنفسه قبل حلول موسم المطر الذي يلزمون فيه المستعمرة. إلا أن "فليك" النملة الذكية وبطل الفيلم يقرر الرحيل عن المستعمرة والذهاب إلى مدينة مجاورة من أجل الاستعانة بحشرات مقاتلين لمعاونة قومه على نبذ سيطرة الجراد عليهم. ويوافق حكماء النمل على رحيل "فليك" من أجل التخلص من متاعبه التي يسببها دائما بواسطة أختراعاته
تدور قصة الفيلم حول فتاة بسيطة في الثانوية تدعى هارو ، حيث صدف في يوم من الأيام أثناء ذهابها للمدرسة أن صادفت قطًا كان على وشك الدهس من قبل شاحنة. فأنقذته. واكتشفت بعد ذلك أن ذلك القط هو ابن ملك مملكة القطط. حيث تدعى (بل تجبر) لاحقا لتأتي المملكة لتقديمها خطيبة لولي عهد الملك بأمر الملك المتسلط بعد أغرقت حديقة بيتها بهدايا من مملكة القطط المتمثلة في النعناع البري ومضارب التنس (حيث كانت رياضتها المفضلة). وخلالها بدأت هارو بسماع صوت همس أنثوي في أذنها بأن تذهب لمكتب القط حيث يوجد بارون . الذي سيساعدها في الخلاص من ورطة الزواج القسري الذي قرره الملك رغمًا عن هارو.
