Billy Elliot the Musical is een musical gebaseerd op de film Billy Elliot uit 2000. 1984. De 11-jarige Billy Elliot woont in een mijnwerkersstadje in het noordoosten van Engeland. Zijn moeder is onlangs overleden en hij moet vaak op zijn demente oma passen. Zijn vader en oudere broer Tony, beide mijnwerkers, zitten thuis. Ze zijn in staking. Billy krijgt iedere week wat geld voor zijn boks lessen. Hij vindt het boksen helemaal niet leuk want hij bakt er niets van. Wanneer Billy weer eens moet nablijven om zijn boks oefeningen te doen, ziet hij de balletklas van mevrouw Wilkinson trainen. Iets in de bewegingen van de meisjes spreekt hem aan en Billy besluit om mee te doen. Met de muziek van Elton John en teksten van John Hall die ook het gelijknamige boek en scenario van de film schreef. Op 28 september 2014 werd de matinee van de musical wereldwijd uitgezonden naar diverse bioscopen, terwijl deze werd opgenomen in het Victoria Palace Theatre.
