Reincarnazione di uno schiavo nero, divorato da un tremendo sciame di api, basta nominare il suo nome tre volte per fare una brutta fine. Tratto da una storia di Clive Barker, un buon film horror; la musica di Philip Glass, insolita per il genere horror, avvolge in maniera inquietante il film.

Sul piano del racconto realistico corale sulla cultura della droga e della violenza nei ghetti neri, alimentata dai mass media, è ineccepibile, ma su quello dei risultati espressivi rivela uno S. Lee riconciliato e un po' incerto. In un primo tempo doveva essere diretto da Martin Scorsese che ne è uno dei produttori.
