Η Τζέμα είναι μια γυναίκα με περίπλοκο παρελθόν. Όταν δέχεται μια κλήση από φίλο στο Σαράγιεβο, παίρνει το αεροπλάνο με τον μικρό της γιο και πηγαίνει εκεί για μια έκθεση φωτογραφίας από τον παλιό της σύντροφο. Αυτή η επιστροφή στη Βοσνία, πυροδοτεί μια σειρά από αναμνήσεις, πάνω στον έρωτα που έζησε με τον Ντιέγκο, έναν Αμερικανό φωτογράφο, λίγο πριν τη Χειμερινή Ολυμπιάδα του 1984. Όλα, όμως, άλλαξαν με το ξέσπασμα του εμφυλίου.
Μία ομάδα επίλεκτων αμερικανών κομάντο ανακαλύπτει έναν υποβρύχιο θησαυρό σε μία λίμνη της Βοσνίας, ο οποίος φημολογείται ότι αξίζει εκατομμύρια δολάρια. Σε μία προσπάθεια να βοηθήσουν τους ντόπιους, δημιουργούν χάος στο πέρασμά τους, με αποτέλεσμα να τους εντοπίσει ο εχθρός. Θα καταφέρουν, άραγε, να ολοκληρώσουν την αποστολή τους μέσα σε δέκα μόλις ώρες;
Ένας αμερικανός πιλότος πολεμικού αεροσκάφους θα εκτελέσει μια πτήση θανάτου κάπου στην ανατολική Ευρώπη, φωτογραφίζοντας μία εν εξελίξει γενοκτονία. Λίγο πριν την ολοκλήρωση της αποστολής του, το σκάφος του καταρρίπτεται. Η προσπάθεια επιβίωσής του μετατρέπεται σε μια πραγματική οδύσσεια, καθώς ο ήρωας έχει να αντιμετωπίσει, εκτός των εχθρικών στρατευμάτων, και έναν αδίστακτο στρατιωτικό, που θέλει πάση θυσία το απόρρητο φωτογραφικό υλικό. Πίσω στη βάση, ένας έμπειρος αξιωματικός της αμερικανικής αεροπορίας κάνει τα αδύνατα δυνατά ώστε να οργανώσει μια ομάδα διάσωσης, αδιαφορώντας για τις αλλεπάλληλες αντιρρήσεις της ηγεσίας του ΝΑΤΟ.

Η αναζήτηση ενός κομματιού σχοινιού, η άφιξη μιας γυναίκας που έχει ανεξόφλητους ερωτικούς λογαριασμούς με τον Μαμπρού και η χαμένη μπάλα ενός παιδιού γίνονται οι αφορμές για το ξεδίπλωμα ιλαροτραγικών καταστάσεων με φόντο το σεληνιακό μετεμφυλιακό τοπίο.

Silent Gunpowder (Serbo-Croatian: Gluvi barut) is a Yugoslavian war film Based on a novel by Branko Ćopić and set during World War II, the film tells the story of a Serbian village in the mountains of Bosnia and its villagers who found themselves divided along two opposing ideological lines, represented by the Chetniks and the Partisans. These two opposing sides are personified in the Partisan commander Španac and a former Royal Army officer Radekić. Španac sees Radekić as the cause of villagers' resistance to the new, Communist, ideology and so the main plot axis is the conflict between them. At the 1990 Pula Film Festival, the film won the Big Golden Arena for Best Film, as well as the awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Branislav Lečić), Best Film Score (Goran Bregović). The film was also shown at the 1991 Moscow International Film Festival, where both Branislav Lečić and Mustafa Nadarević won the Silver St. George Award for their performances.
