Snaží se dostat z Texasu domů do Ohia. Cestou narazí na svérázného a neohroženého zabijáka zombie, který má namířeno do Tallahassee. Společně projíždějí zpustošenou a liduprázdnou zemí a snaží se přijít na to, jestli je vůbec možné zhoubu lidstva přežít. Setkávají se také s půvabnou Wichitou a její mladší sestrou Little Rock. Po několika pokusech obou dívek mladíky obelstít a okrást uzavřou dohodu, že dál budou cestovat společně. Jako jedni z mála přeživších by měli držet při sobě a krýt si záda.
