Kdysi dávno ve fantazijním světě Kumandry žili lidé a draci v harmonii. Kdykoliv pak zlověstné nestvůry nazývané Druuni ohrožovaly zemi, draci se pro záchranu svých lidských přátel obětovali. Nyní, o 500 let později, jsou tato monstra zpět a osamělá válečnice Raya, se vydává na dlouhou a nebezpečnou cestu, aby vystopovala posledního draka a hrozivé Druuny zastavila jednou provždy. Během své cesty však zjistí, že k záchraně světa nebude zapotřebí jen dračího kouzla, ale především i důvěry.
V neděli 14. listopadu 1965 se ve vietnamském údolí Ia Drang poprvé střetli Američané s nepřáteli z komunistického severního Vietnamu. Tři sta devadesát pět amerických vojáků mělo proti sobě desetinásobný počet nepřátel, kteří navíc byli na svém území. Následné třídenní boje vstoupily do historie jako počátek vietnamské války. Film scenáristy a režiséra Randalla Wallace zachycuje nejen pekelnou bitvu, která se v „údolí stínů“ rozpoutala, ale též pocity lidí, kteří se jí účastnili. Nebyli to jen američtí a vietnamští vojáci – dramatické události totiž prožívali na dálku i jejich nejbližší, zejména manželky. Nicméně hlavním hrdinou je plukovník Hal Moore, upřímně věřící katolík a otec pěti dětí, ale především vynikající voják a stratég, který se neobává ani těch nejnebezpečnějších situací.
Po jedné fušce v Londýně jsou nájemní zabijáčci Ray a Ken pověřeni svým drsným šéfem Harrym, aby se schovali v Bruggách. Zatímco Ken si užívá klidného prostředí a památek, upovídaný a akční Ray je malebným městem víc než znechucen, a proto se rozhodne vymyslet dobrodružství. Netrvá dlouho a Ray se potuluje s turisty, začne si s místní kráskou, mlátí jejího bývalého kluka skinheada a paří s americkým trpaslíkem, který zde natačí surrealistický film. Dovolená se však zkomplikuje, když Ray zjistí, že Harry ho chce mrtvého a Ken má tuto prácičku udělat. Samozřejmě, že Harry nepočítal s tím, že se Ray s Kenem na výletě tak spřátelí. No, a tak se Harry naučí těžkou lekci – všechno si musíš udělat sám…
