Truman Show je prepracovaná show odohrávajúca sa v gigantickej kupole, ktorá tvorí svet vo svete. Ako poriadna úspešná komerčná show má aj svoje obete. Hlavnou obeťou je tu Truman, ktorého život, identita i vzťahy sú obetované pre zábavu iných ľudí. Ľudia na celom svete sledujú príbeh jeho života od jeho narodenia, 24 hodín denne. Truman postupom času začína registrovať, že ľudia v jeho okolí konajú pričasto až príliš neprirodzene a iracionálne a začína chápať, že svet okolo neho nie je tým skutočným svetom. Jeho túžba po skutočnom a slobodnom živote napokon prerastie do niekoľkých pokusov o únik z tohto sveta. Posledný pokus sa mu stáva takmer osudným.
