No Japão do século XVI, o senhor feudal Hidetora, patriarca do clã Ichimonji, aos 70 anos, decide dividir o reino entre os três filhos: Taro, Jiro e Saburo. Taro, o mais velho, seguindo a tradição do patriarcado japonês, torna-se o líder do clã e recebe o Primeiro Castelo, centro do poder. Jiro e Saburo recebem, respectivamente, o Segundo e o Terceiro Castelo. Hidetora retém para si o título de “Grande Senhor” para permanecer com os privilégios, sem se responsabilizar com os deveres do cargo. Nos planos de Hidetora, Jiro e Saburo dariam apoio a Taro e os três, unidos, manteriam as conquistas da família, utilizando como exemplo, a parábola da flecha, de Motonari Mori, senhor feudal japonês que viveu entre 1497–1571.

Em tempos de paz os samurais não eram necessários e estavam a viver em completa miséria sem uma casa para servir. Alguns pediam para realizar o haraquíri "hara-kiri" (seppuku) dentro das residências dos nobres apenas para lhes extorquir dinheiro, mas com pena dos guerreiros os senhores davam-lhes algum dinheiro e mandavam-nos embora. Um nobre recebe um jovem samurai com esse mesmo propósito e decide obrigá-lo a tirar a sua própria vida.

A black and white preface shows a woman in a traditional kimono climbing the stairs as WWII era Mitsubishi Zeros fly through the sky and footage of the Japanese military of the era is superimposed over the footage. She stops at the top of the stairs to say her prayers, rings a bell, and heads inside where the footage is shot in color. She unravels her kimono and rubs her face with the cloth before wrapping her blade and lovingly touching it. She pulls it across her stomach and slits herself open, falling to the mat. She crawls across the mat, dying, slipping in her own slick blood until she can't move anymore.

The only difference with this one as opposed to the other "entries" - is this one has 2 girls committing suicide, and they are outdoors and wearing samurai style outfits as opposed to Japanese robes or some other "costume". Also, they stab themselves with samurai swords instead of the typical shorter ritual knives...
