十幾年前，帶著面具的神祕忍者(宇智波帶土)解放了巨大的魔獸「九尾」，被九尾襲擊而面臨毀滅的木葉村，為了守護村子，第四代火影犧牲自己的性命，把九尾封印在剛出生的孩子鳴人身上。而時光流逝，令人恐懼的忍者集團「曉」的成員襲擊了木葉村，而鳴人與夥伴們也勉強的算是迎擊成功。但是原本應該已經死去的「曉」的成員，突然間再次出現，並襲擊了木葉忍者村；鳴人等人將之擊退後受到村人的讚許，同時也獲得了提交上忍申請書的機會。看到其他人都有父母可以幫忙寫申請書而感到落寞和焦躁的鳴人，以及對父母的囉嗦與管教感到不滿的小櫻，在夜晚的街道遇見了突然出現的鳶(宇智波帶土)。鳶使用了以七隻尾獸的力量創造出來的「限定月讀」，將鳴人和小櫻送往了另一個與真實世界相似，卻又有許多不同之處的奇妙世界...
