Una jovencita llamada Yuki Kashima, nació en la cárcel en una fría noche como instrumento de una venganza, ya que su padre, fue brutalmente asesinado al ser confundido con un asesino del gobierno Meiji, suerte que también compartió su pequeño hermano. Su madre logró vengarse de uno de los asesinos, pero por ese asesinato fue condenada a cadena perpetua y para continuar su venganza, se dedicó a acostarse con todos los presos y carceleros que pudo, hasta conseguir quedar embarazada para que su hijo (que resultó ser hija) terminase la venganza por ella. Saya murió al dar a luz a la pequeña Yuki, que fue educada y brutalmente entrenada por el monje Dokai.

La esperada y curiosa adaptación japonesa del western “Unforgiven” (1992) de Clint Eastwood encabezada por el director japonés Sang-il Lee (“Villain“, 2010) nos presenta su primera teaser. Esta versión se va a llamar con el nombre de japonés de “Yurusarezaru Mono” o el mismo “Unforgiven“. El protagonista será Ken Watanabe al que ya le hemos visto acompañando a Tom Cruise en el año 2003 con “El último samurai“, y ha trabajado con el propio Clint Eastwood en el año 2006 con “Cartas desde Iwo Jima“. Esta vez volverá a ser un samurái, aunque uno más violento todavía, que vive jubilado en la isla norteña japonesa de Hokkaido con su esposa, pero será sacado de la jubilación para un último trabajo. Koichi Sato (“Ace Attorney“, 2012) hará el papel correspondiente a Gene Hackman, y Akira Emoto (“The Floating Castle“, 2012), el de Morgan Freeman.

La historia narra la batalla por la colina 203 durante la guerra ruso-japonesa en 1905. La colina fue capturado con la pérdida de muchas vidas en ambos lados, japoneses y rusos. At the beginning of the Meiji era, Sayoko, the daughter of a large banker in Tokyo, comes to Sotobo's villa for the first time in eight years, guided by her student, Yasu. The film depicts carnivalesque atmosphere summed up by the cry "Ei ja nai ka" ("Why not?") in Japan in 1867 and 1868 in the days leading to the Meiji Restoration. It examines the effects of the political and social upheaval of the time, and culminates in a revelrous march on the Tokyo Imperial Palace, which turns into a massacre. Characteristically, Imamura focuses not on the leaders of the country, but on characters in the lower classes and on the fringes of society.
