12 Năm Nô Lệ là một bộ phim truyền hình lịch sử Mỹ-Anh của đạo diễn Steve McQueen. Trong những năm trước khi cuộc nội chiến, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), một người da đen tự do ở New York bị bắt cóc và bán làm nô lệ ở miền Nam. Chịu sự tàn ác của một nô lệ (Michael Fassbender) nhưng anh cũng tìm thấy lòng tốt bất ngờ từ những người khác trong khi cuộc đấu tranh liên tục để tồn tại và bảo vệ nhân phẩm của mình. Năm 2007, các nhà làm phim Việt Nam đã có một bước đi khá táo bạo khi hợp tác cùng điện ảnh Hàn Quốc trong một bộ phim kinh dị được đầu tư rất công phu mang tên “Mười”, sự thành công của Muoi chính là chất xúc tác quan trọng để những sản phẩm hợp tác tiếp theo được ra đời, trong đó mới đây nhất chính là Cô Hầu Gái của đạo diễn Derek Nguyen. Ra mắt vào năm 2016, có một điểm khá thú vị khi tên của phim trùng với tên của một sản phẩm điện ảnh của điện ảnh Hàn cũng phát hành trong năm 2016, một “siêu phẩm” 18+ của đạo diễn Chan-wook Park với vai nữ chính được đảm nhiệm bởi Min-hee Kim, chính vì vậy mà để phân biệt, chúng ta sẽ gọi The Housemaid là Cô Hầu Gái (bản Việt Nam).

Tưởng như bắt đầu một cuộc sống sung túc, đầy đủ, cô gái trẻ không ngờ mình bị lôi vào một cuộc tranh đấu ngầm trong gia đình mới với vợ cả và vợ hai để có được vị trí quan trọng ở nhà chồng. Dựa trên những câu chuyện có thật về thân phận người phụ nữ Việt Nam trong xã hội xưa, phim cũng đề cập đến các vấn đề của xã hội lúc đó như hôn nhân sắp đặt, tục đa thê, trọng nam khinh nữ.

Chronicle Caste War in Yucatan held in the nineteenth century, where the land and the people were the property of the landowners, who called themselves " divine caste ". On one hand, General Salvador Alvarado organized the revolution; on the other, the landowners hire Colonel Ortiz Argumedo to organized the defense of their autonomy. Don Wilfrido, one of the masters, do not hesitate to send his son to fight to maintain their wealth and privileges.

The story begins in a small rural village in Ladimirevci, Eastern Croatia in 1943, where a land owner Sima is helping the Partisan Movement and the official Ustasha regime in order to save the life of his son Beneš, who is enlisted in the German army. Sima doesn't want to let his son fight for the wrong side any more, and doesn't want to give him to the Partisans either, so he hides him in his attic for the time being. The story is interwoven with episodes of Sima trying to muster a beautiful stallion - Sokol - who only answers to his son Beneš and clearly doesn't like his old man.

The film features Fernandez himself as a character named Rogellio Torres. The lion's share of the footage, however, is devoted to the romance between Esperanza, granddaughter of a common laborer, and Jose Luis Castro, the firebrand son of a landowner. Joining a revolutionary movements, Castro is disowned by his father, but Esperanza remains loyally by his side. Later on, Castro's father is killed by outlaws; in seeking vengeance, he sacrifices his own life, while Esperanza carries on his revolutionary work with their young son in tow.

A wealthy landowner haunted by the spectre of his dead mother has a fling with a beautiful fugitive who bears a striking resemblance to his missing wife, who may have been murdered.

After falling for Alicia, greedy and powerful Mexican landowner Carlos has her fiancé thrown in prison on a bogus charge. To trick Carlos into releasing her man, Alicia teams up with her Aunt Delfina and tries to convince Carlos that he's a ghost.

A main agenda of the prewar farmer's movement was struggle against landowners. Prokino also considered this as their prime concern. The main title sequence and the latter part of the film have unfortunately been lost. While we cannot see its entire structure, we can still get a glimpse of it from this surviving short.
