«کنجی واتانابه» (شیمورا)، کارمند قدیمی بخش بایگانی شهرداری، در می‌یابد که به سرطان معده مبتلا شده و بیش از شش ماه دیگر زنده نمی‌ماند. او ابتدا می‌خواهد تا از آخرین روزهای زندگی‌اش لذت ببرد، اما این بی فایده است و «واتانابه» می‌میرد. در مراسم یادبودش، روشن می‌شود که پیش از مرگ یک زمین بازی برای بچه‌های محله ساخته است.

Walthall) bluffs his way into obtaining enough money to support the welfare of the girl,Rose Wentworth (Sally Blane), and his two cronies. He sends for the girl's former sweetheart, who turns out to be a crook.
