Ryme City, una metrópoli futurista en la que los humanos y los Pokémon conviven en armonía. Tras la misteriosa desaparición de su padre, toda una leyenda en la ciudad, el joven Tim Goodman (Justice Smith) comienza una investigación para buscarle y averiguar lo que le ha sucedido. En esta misión le ayudará el adorable súper-detective Pikachu, un inteligente Pokémon que habla, aunque curiosamente el chico es el único que puede entenderle. Ambos unirán sus fuerzas y trabajarán juntos para resolver este gran misterio, con la ayuda de Lucy (Kathryn Newton), una reportera que trabaja en su primera gran historia. Será una aventura en la que descubrirán a entrañables personajes del universo Pokémon, además de una trama espeluznante que podría amenazar la convivencia pacífica de todo este universo.
Esta cinta de Pokemon es muy especial para los fans de la saga, pues es la primera en la cual Pikachu es el protagonista, o lo que es lo mismo, un hito dentro de la saga, aunque lo cierto es que no hay que ser fan de Pokemon para disfrutarla.
En la cinta vemos a Ash, el entrenador de Pikachu y a sus amigos llegando a una especie de resort para Pokemon, un lugar en donde los Pokemon pueden estar libres y tranquilos, por lo que sus entrenadores se pueden relajar.
Sin embargo, la tranquilidad no les dura mucho, pues enseguida oyen los llantos de Togepi, llantos que no deberían oírse en un lugar creado para que los Pokemon se sientan a gusto.
Por eso, Ash, Pikachu y los demás se ponen a investigar, dando con la causa de los llantos: Raichu y su pandilla, los cuales no parecen muy dispuestos a que en el lugar reine la paz y la calma.
Cuando Togepi desaparece, Pikachu y sus amibos deberán buscarlo a través de un gran bosque. Segundo especial de Pikachu, estrenado en cines a nivel mundial junto a la película "Pokémon 2: El poder de uno" (1999) y editado en las versiones domésticas del film.

Riding home atop a train, the Pichu Brothers suddenly find themselves knocked off and flying through the air! They hit a Wynaut on their way down, bringing all three of them to the forest where Pikachu, Totodile, and some more friends are playing in a waterfall and building a campfire. When it starts to rain, the group takes shelter in a water mill—but the water mill starts moving! The next morning, the whole group decides to work together to make sure the Pichu Brothers make their train. Will the two be able to make it home safe?
At a giant beachside mansion, Pikachu and some of its buddies decide to play a game of hide-and-seek. Pikachu is “it,” and it goes off in search of its friends. Meanwhile, Larvitar, sick of being all by itself, kicks a rock in anger. The rock hurtles through the air—and hits a lawnmower, turning it on and sending it tearing off after Pikachu and its friends! The group draws the lawnmower into a maze and even gets it into the water, but the lawnmower just keeps on chasing. The Pokémon build a road out of logs, hoping to get the lawnmower into a shack, but Psyduck trips and ruins the whole setup. How will the friends ever escape the lawnmower? This fantasy will have you on the edge of your seat!
