The story follows the sometimes happy, sometimes sad, and a tad stressful daily life of "some sort of small, cute creature" (Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu) known as Chiikawa. Nemcsak a talajszinten élnek, hanem a talajban, sőt a fák lombkoronájában is. Az emlősök a levegőt is birtokba vették, versenyre kelve a madarakkal. Egyes helyeken csillagászati számban gyűlnek össze? és szinte mindenhol megvetik a lábukat. E rendkívül változatos élőlények története tárul elénk David Attenborough tízrészes sorozatából.
