Benjamin Franklin Gates komt uit een familie vol schattenzoekers. Alle familieleden hebben hetzelfde levensdoel gehad: het vinden van een oorlogsbuit die na de Revolutie door de Founding Fathers werd verstopt. Ben staat op het punt om de schat te vinden, maar wordt verraden door twee vrienden die de schat zelf willen hebben.
