Jenny har nu blivit tonåring. I och med det flyttar ett gäng helt nya känslor in i hennes huvud.
Att växa upp kan vara knepigt, och för den unga flickan Jenny är det just så. Hennes pappa får ett nytt jobb och familjen flyttar från det trygga livet i en småstad till storstaden San Francisco. Precis som alla andra så styrs Jenny av sina känslor; Glädje, Rädsla, Ilska, Avsky och Vemod. Känslorna bor i Huvudkontoret, ett kontrollcentrum inuti Jennys hjärna där de hjälper henne genom det dagliga livet. Jenny och hennes känslor kämpar med att anpassa sig till en ny stad, ett nytt hus och en ny skola – det blir lite mycket på en gång och det utbryter tumult i Huvudkontoret.
TV-kändisen Jules inser snabbt att det högpresterande livet inte är någonting jämfört med graviditeten. Wendy får en släng av hormonerna som hon sent kommer att glömma och hennes man, Gary, kämpar förgäves för att inte verka sämre än alfahane-pappan som väntar tvillingar med en ung troféhustru. Holly och Alex planerar att adoptera och Holly är redo att resa jorden runt för att göra det möjligt medan Alex är tveksam och skickas till "the dudes group" för att dämpa paniken och få stöd.
Frances bor i New York men saknar en egen bostad, hon är lärling i ett danskompani men är egentligen ingen dansare. Frances vill ha så mycket mer men lever ändå livet med oförklarlig glädje och lättja.

When Peter encourages her to perform with him at the local pizzerias folk music nights, Joy sings sort of hiding behind masks of wigs and silliness. Despite the singing, Peter and Joys relationship blossoms. But there are lots of hiccups along the way -- ex-wives, ex-husbands, frightening performances, and bucket loads of doubt. Set to the backdrop of the folk music scene in an arty country town, the film celebrates universal themes of friendship, low self-esteem, love relationships, and the joy of dogs.
