تدور الاحداث بعد مائتي عام في المستقبل بعد حالة شابة مفقودة تجلب مخبرًا متشددًا وقبطان سفينة مارقة في سباق عبر النظام الشمسي لفضح أكبر مؤامرة في تاريخ البشرية.

تقع الأحداث بعد أربعمائة عام في المستقبل، حيث نشهد مغامرات سفينة الفضاء الاستكشافية (أورفيل) في رحلتها عبر غلاف جو الكرة الأرضية، والمغامرات التي يخوضها أفراد طاقم السفينة، وما يواجهونه من تحديات مختلفة وظروف عسيرة خلال رحلتهم الاستكشافية.

القصة تدور حول صبي اسمه سيمون و مآثره لإيجاد قدره في عالم ملئ بالألغاز والمخاطر. عاش في قريته جيها طوال حياته , وكانت قريته تقع في باطن الأرض , وكان يعمل حفارا للقرية و الغرض من هذا توسيعها , لكن سيمون كان يحفر لإيجاد الكنوز أيضا. في يوم من الأيام احتفظ بمثقاب صغير الشكل وجده أثناء حفره . ولم يعلم بان هذا المثقاب سيغير مجرى حياته إلى الأبد مع القروي الآخر كامينا. وكان كامينا بمثابة الأخ لسيمون وكان هدفهم السماء (سطح الأرض) . وشاءت الأقدار بأن يجتمعوا بيوكو وكانت تطارد مخلوقا ميكانيكيا الذي ظهر في قريتهم . بعد هزيمة المخلوق الميكانيكي بواسطة رأس ميكانيكي وجده سيمون في وقت سابق . من هنا بدأت الرحلة لإيجاد قدرهم وهو يمتد إلى السماء.

The space battleship Yamato is entrusted with this task, but they have only one year before humanity ends.

Space Battleship Yamato is a Japanese science fiction anime series featuring an eponymous spacecraft. It is also known to English-speaking audiences as Space Cruiser Yamato; an English-dubbed and heavily edited version of the series was broadcast on North American and Australian television as Star Blazers. The first two seasons of this version were broadcast in Greece in 1981-82 as Διαστημόπλοιο Αργώ. An Italian-language version was also broadcast under the name Star Blazers in Italy, and a Portuguese-language version was successfully shown in Brazil under the title Patrulha Estelar and Viaje a la Ultima Galaxia or Astronave Intrepido in Spain and Latin America.

It is a seminal series in the history of anime, marking a turn towards more complex serious works and influencing works such as Mobile Suit Gundam and Neon Genesis Evangelion; Hideaki Anno has ranked Yamato his favorite anime and credited it with sparking his interest in anime.

Yamato was the first anime series or movie to win the Seiun Award, a feat not repeated until the 1985 Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.

An alien race called Gauna has destroyed Earth. leaving humanity struggling to survive aboard the spaceship Sidonia.
