Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog wordt een Italiaanse man met zijn vrouw en zoontje afgevoerd naar een Duits werkkamp. Om het kind het vooruitzicht van een zekere dood te besparen, stelt hij de reis voor als een spel, waarin je prijzen kunt winnen.
De tienjarige Elliott woont samen met zijn moeder, broer en zusje in een bosrijke buitenwijk van Los Angeles. Op een dag ontdekt hij in de tuin een buitenaards wezentje. Elliott en het wezentje schrikken zich eerst te pletter, maar sluiten dan vriendschap. Elliott noemt het wezentje E.T. en verbergt het in een kast op zijn kamer. De jongen laat E.T. ook kennis maken met zijn broer en zijn zusje. E.T. raakt snel vertrouwd met het aardse leven. Toch heeft hij heimwee naar zijn planeet. Ondertussen begint de aardse atmosfeer zijn gezondheid aan te tasten. Ook Elliott voelt zich niet lekker. Hun band is immers zo hecht geworden dat ze dezelfde gevoelens ervaren.

'Erzsebet Bathory' is een portret van een zestiende-eeuwse gravin die naar verluidt in het bloed van maagden baadde, en 'Lucrezia Borgia' is een vijftiende-eeuwse orgie met haar broer en haar vader.
Hubie Dubois heeft het hart op de juiste plaats, maar wordt in zijn woonplaats Salem niet graag gezien. Meer nog is hij voortdurend het mikpunt van spot door zijn obsessie met Halloween. Dit jaar echter lopen er op deze feestdag werkelijke monsters rond in Salem en Hubie neemt de taak op zich om het gevecht met hen aan te gaan.

Maar als zijn vader de belofte hem daar uit te halen niet nakomt, ontsnapt Cyril uit het tehuis en probeert tevergeefs zijn vader weer op te zoeken. Achtervolgd door mensen uit het internaat, wordt hij opgevangen door een jonge vrouw, Samantha (Cecile de France).
Sfeervol anarchistisch gedraaid en geweldig geacteerd door de gehele jonge cast, roept GLUE schijnbaar moeiteloos de vele ambivalente gevoelens van de puberteit op. Samen met zijn beste vriend Nacho sluit de vijftienjarige Lucas vriendschap met het eigenzinnige meisje Andrea. Ze leiden een bestaan van rondhangen en rocken en natuurlijk doorlopen ze alle beginstadia van seks en drugs. Met minimale middelen castte de debuterende Alexis Dos Santos zijn hoofdpersonen in een workshop en draaide digitaal (en deels op Super8) in een winderige uithoek van Patagonie in het stadje waar hij opgroeide. Hij was daar in 1978 op achtjarige leeftijd terechtgekomen, omdat zijn ouders om politieke redenen uit Buenos Aires moesten vluchten. Eén van de onderliggende thema's in GLUE is dan ook het gevoel op de verkeerde plaats te zijn, versterkt door de wens rebels en punk te zijn.
