V nepříliš vzdálené budoucnosti dohlíží na dodržování pořádku mechanické policejní jednotky. Nyní se jim ale lidé začínají bránit. Když dojde k odcizení a přeprogramování jednoho z policejních droidů, stane se robot jménem Chappie vůbec prvním robotem se schopností samostatného myšlení a cítění.
