Sex and the City volgt de levens van vier vriendinnen in Manhattan, New York. Columniste Carrie , advocate Miranda, zakenvrouw Samantha en de brave Charlotte zouden genoeg aan zichzelf moeten hebben, maar in plaats daarvan verdiepen de dames zich voortdurend in de levens van elkaar en proberen samen de juiste weg te vinden.
Een Parijzenaar krijgt te horen dat hij ernstig ziek is en hij vraagt zich af of hij snel zal sterven. Zijn nieuwe conditie geeft hem een volledig andere kijk op het leven en de mensen die zijn pad kruisen. Regisseur Friedrich Monroe heeft problemen met het vinden van een passend einde voor zijn zwart-wit film over Lissabon. Hij roept de hulp in van zijn vriend Phillip Winter, een geluidstechnicus. Als Winter een week later arriveert is Monroe verdwenen, maar hij heeft de film achtergelaten.

De film volgt diverse personen in hun zoektocht naar liefde, tolerantie en verlossing in Berlijn. Zo is er Jane. Wanneer zij het jongetje Nizar vindt is ze vastbesloten hem te helpen, maar haar moeder Margaret loopt niet meteen warm voor dat idee.
De film bestaat uit tien korte film segmenten gecreëerd door regisseurs uit de hele wereld. De verhaallijn van elk segment concentreert zich op een ontmoeting van de liefde in een andere wijk van de stad, waarbij de onderscheidende kwaliteiten en het karakter van die locatie blijkt. Verschillende culturen worden overbrugd terwijl unieke en universele liefdesuitingen worden gevierd.
Experimentele film, waarin een lentedag in Berlijn door middel van camera-instellingen en montage is geabstraheerd tot een ritmisch spel van beweging.

Ranks of skyscrapers extrude columns of smoke and steam. In plain view. Or framed, as through a balustrade. A crane promotes the city's upward progress, as an ironworker balances on a high beam. A locomotive in a railway yard prepares to depart, while an arriving ocean liner jostles with attentive tugboats. Fading sunlight is reflected in the waters of the harbor. The imagery is interspersed with quotations from Walt Whitman, who is left unnamed.
