Vien pėstiesiems skirtas pusketvirto tūkstančio kilometrų ilgio takas kasmet sutraukia daugiau nei du milijonus žmonių. Tarp jų yra ir šio filmo herojai – trys poros draugų, nusprendusių savaitgalį praleisti Apalačių take. Savo žygį šeši bičiuliai pradeda mažame Virdžinijos valstijos miestelyje, kuriame vietiniai juos itin stengiasi perspėti, kad žygeiviai šiukštu nenuklystų nuo sužymėtos tako trasos. Kelionės pradžioje skrupulingai laikęsi nurodymų, netrukus jaunuoliai susivilioja intriguojančia nepažymėta tako atšaka ir nutaria ją ištyrinėti. Netrukus miško glūdumoje jie randa keistą 1859 m. atminimo lentelę, skirtą kalnų gyventojų bendruomenės, pasivadinusios „Fondu“, įkūrimui. Šios bendruomenės gyventojai tikėjo, kad Jungtinių Valstijų laukia neišvengiama griūtis ir gelbėdamiesi pasitraukė į kalnus.
