Šestnáctiletý Pim (Jelle Florizoone) bydlí se svou matkou (Eva van der Gucht), která o něj nejeví zvláštní zájem, na pobřeží severního moře v malém městečku, ve kterém poznává svou vlastní sexualitu. Navzdory všem očekáváním Pim se mu začne líbit Gino (Mathias Vergels), mladší chlapec se sousedství. Přes veškeré nesnáze k sobě tito dva mladí muži nacházejí cestu a naplňují své touhy.

Eva je už nějakou dobu uzavřená a má problém s navázáním citových vazeb. Úzkost zesílí ve chvíli, kdy se dozví o pietní akci v rodné vesnici, upomínající jejího dávno zesnulého kamaráda z dětství. Právě tam, ve sluncem zalitém dětství na venkově, zůstávají zadřené třísky bolavých vzpomínek, ve kterých se dětské hry přetavily do výbušných hormonů a předznamenaly konec nevinného dospívání. Když Eva nasedá do auta a vrací se na místo činu, rozhodne se čelit spalujícímu létu, které navždy změnilo její život.

Příběh začíná v létě 1914 na anglickém venkově. Soustředí se okolo sourozenců Very (Alicia Vikander) a Edwarda (Taron Egerton) a jejich dvou přátel. Nesmělý Victor (Colin Morgan) je zamilovaný do Very, ta ale pokukuje po nadaném Rolandovi (Kit Harington), se kterým sdílí vlastní umělecké ambice. Jejím snem je stát se spisovatelkou, žije ovšem v době, kdy nebylo běžné, aby ženy studovaly. Přesto usiluje o přijetí na Oxford. Plány a iluze mladé čtveřice se ale brzy bortí, když začíná válka, která měla trvat pouze do Vánoc... Britský snímek je inspirován stejnojmennou slavnou knihou Testament of Youth (1933) z pera spisovatelky a pacifistky Very Brittain, která v knize popsala svůj život v letech 1900 až 1925, přičemž se zaměřila zejména na to, jak válka zasáhla a ovlivnila životy celé generace. Film se věnuje právě pohnutému období během první světové války.

Jacky pracuje na farmě svého strýce, zapleteného do nelegálních obchodů s hormony na podporu růstu skotu. Také on proniká do nebezpečných styků farmářů s mafiány a současně prohlubuje svou závislost na testosteronových injekcích, které z něho udělaly utrápenou „kopu“ svalové hmoty. Přesto Jacky touží po normálním životě.

Sam je dvanáctiletý kluk, který to nemá v životě vůbec lehké. Chodí totiž do skautského oddílu, ve kterém je největší zábavou se do něj strefovat a šikanovat ho. Nejhorší ze všeho je jejich vedoucí Peter, který, jak se zdá, našel až sadistickou zálibu v jeho ponižování. Tento rok se má oddíl vydat do kempu, kde koluje podivná legenda o smrtícím nebezpečí, které hrozí všem táborníkům. Nikdo tomu samozřejmě nevěří, až na Sama, který zjistí, že legenda je krutá pravda. Jak se ale zdá, nikdo mu nevěří, a tak se všichni dostanou do smrtícího nebezpečí. Nelítostný zabiják už si totiž pro ně jde.

The inhabitants of the small town of Boom are busy organizing the annual local festivities when the arrival of the Duke of Olivares, who rules the country on behalf of the King Philip III of Spain, is announced. While the male citizens cowardly surrender to panic like rats on a sinking ship, the brave female citizens, led by the bold wife of the burgomaster, decide to become the best hosts the Spaniards can ever meet.

Poor but happy, young Nello and his grandfather live alone, delivering milk as a livelihood, in the outskirts of Antwerp, a city in Flanders (the Flemish or Dutch-speaking part of modern-day Belgium). They discover a beaten dog (a Bouvier, a large sturdy dog native to Flanders) and adopt it and nurse it back to health, naming it Patrasche, the middle name of Nello's mother Mary, who died when Nello was very young. Nello's mother was a talented artist, and like his mother, he delights in drawing, and his friend Aloise is his model and greatest fan and supporter.

Whilst King Gros Pif I amuses himself at debauched banquets, his musketeers pursue their tax-collecting duties with a malicious zeal. Goaded by the court jester (who is also the Queen’s lover), the ministers decide to put an end to this regime and have the King locked up. Hearing the news, the famous Chevalier Blanc comes to his rescue. Aided by the knight and his cousin Lucienne, the King flees to Flanders, where he devises a scheme to win him back the throne of France...
