냉전이 지속되던 1957년 콜우드라는 한 탄광마을. 이 마을에 사는 남자아이들의 미래는 태어날 때부터 정해져 있다. 아버지를 따라 광부가 되는 것. 이런 미래를 당연하다는 듯 받아들여야 하는 호머는 소련의 첫 인공위성 발사성공에 대한 뉴스를 듣고 자신이 진정으로 되고 싶은 것에 대해 알게 된다. 하늘을 가로지르는 별을 바라보며 호머는 로켓을 만들기로 마음먹고 친구들과 로켓 연구에 몰입한다. 그러나 호머의 꿈을 덧없는 몽상이라 생각하는 아버지 존과 갈등하기 시작한다. 주위의 반대와 온갖 시행착오 끝에 서서히 그들의 로켓은 모습을 갖춰지고 마침내 시험 발사가 있는 날, 주변사람들의 비웃음과 반대를 뒤로한 채 로켓은 하늘을 향해 성공적으로 발사된다.
카렌, 사라, 엠마 터니 세 자매는 펜실베이니아의 한 작은 마을로 이사를 가게 된다. 하지만 그들이 모르는 사실은 1913년에 끔찍한 광산 사고로 수십 명의 아이들이 지하에 갇혔다는 것. 그런데 문제는 그 아이들이 아직도 살아있다는 것이다.

Maxime is a young Valdorian who works in a gold mine. As he experiences several difficulties as he goes through life, he will question his definition of masculinity. Until the day an explosion breaks out underground. As part of the rescue mission, Maxime descends into the mine lair with the firm intention of bringing each of his colleagues back to the surface alive.
“Laura” is based on a true story about a dramatic search and rescue mission at Halemba coal mine that gripped Poland in February of 2006. A miner was trapped underground, and by the fourth day when everyone was beginning to lose hope of his safe return, the rescue team heard a faint knocking on the pipeline. After a nearly a week long search, the miner was rescued. Those who followed the story closely called it a miracle. But the miner claimed that what saved him was stronger than a miracle – his love for his daughter Laura, and his wife Marlena.
On the 19th of November 2010, the Pike River mine exploded with 31 men trapped inside. In the immediate confusion that followed no one knew what had happened. Within hours two men would manage a heroic escape but 29 remained unaccounted for. Over five days the men’s families and loved ones waited, hoping they would come out alive. Then two further explosions sealed the men’s fate. However, the fuse that would eventually snuff out so many lives was lit decades before. Set in the drama of the five days between the three explosions, Pike River reveals the tragic back story of the mine where pressure for profits would eventually contribute to the deaths of 29 men.
