August Pullman est né avec une malformation du visage. Neuf représentants d'une bande d'adolescents de Coney Island, les Warriors, se sont rendus à un congrès convoqué dans le Bronx. Un chef prestigieux invite les jeunes à une action collective contre les forces de l'ordre, mais il est tué en pleine péroraison par un détraqué qui fait porter la responsabilité de son geste par les Warriors. Ces derniers cherchent à regagner leur quartier par le métro, mais doivent faire face à diverses bandes lancées à leurs trousses.

Frankie, un adolescent sans but qui vit aux abords de Brooklyn, passe un été épouvantable. Entre son père mourant et sa mère qui veut qu'il se trouve une petite amie, il tente d'échapper à la désolation de la vie de famille en sévissant avec ses délinquants d'amis et en flirtant avec des hommes plus âgés sur internet. Lorsque ses conversations et ses sessions de webcaméra en ligne s'intensifient, il s'acoquine finalement avec des types d'une plage de drague des environs tout en entamant une prudente relation avec une jeune femme. Alors que Frankie lutte pour concilier ses désirs antagonistes, ses décisions vont le faire dégringoler vers d'irréversibles conséquences.
