Controversial: best CBM/superhero films are WATCHMEN or The Dark Knight. I love the cinematography and visuals in both films equally, but whereas the story in TDK is better, the themes in WM are deeper. Every other CBM is pretty bad, especially the few Marvel films I watched. Cheap humor and terrible visuals... I mean paint drying on a wall has a better color palette than Captain America.

Watchmen is pretentious, grey, bland, hollow garbage you were on to a winner with the dark Knight then you went over the top, but Marvel will likely produce the best comic book movie with infinity war.

Agreed, Infinity War will be an epxerience never before seen in cinema (to quote the Russos)
My coffee just projectile sprayed across the room reading this suggestion 😲
The original Superman is still the finest as far as I'm concerned...
Yeah, nostalgics always say that but really the original Superman isn't the best the genre can do... Not even close.
Na, I don't think it's anything to do with nostalgia - it's just a case of vastly superior cinematography. The first half of the film is just beautiful to look at, especially the stuff set around Smallville, e.g. the funeral & when Clark is in the field just before he leaves. The score is magical too.
Some of the newer films aren't bad (in fact I find myself rating them all very similarly ok ~ 6/10) but they're all so formulaic now, and with so much financially riding on following that formula, that it's hard to imagine any of the current crop hitting the same heights...

Vastly superior? That's how I know you've got it bad, they were okay for the 70s but the dated effects for the original Superman can now be found on cw shows instead.

You're conflating dude. I never mentioned effects - which are obviously not going to stand up against today's - I said the cinematography.
In another 20 years time, the cinematography of Superman will still be revered. Whereas the current production line's CGI effects will also inevitably have dated by then leaving little of any artistic merit to celebrate.

Yeah I meant the cinematography too, dude. There's nothing that can't be improved or already has been.

Pretentious? Definitely.
Grey? Not even remotely. Most colorful CBM I can think of and it's one of the many reasons I love the cinematography. It's the contrast between the deep yellows and "true black" background (Marvel uses grey), or the shifting blues of Dr. Manhatten - which works well against Mars' orange backdrop.
Bland/hollow garbage? No. Either you don't understand the actions that the characters make, or you refuse to accept the ending which is ethically debatable. However it's stuffed with themes and gives a polarizing commentary on history and human nature by setting it all in a parallel universe. Think about Nixon's 3rd term, USA completely winning in Vietnam, the false American dream and the Comedian shooting JFK in that wonderful title sequence. By showing us what could have happened, it makes us question what did happen in reality. Maybe this film is simply too cynical for you though. Like the ending. It is superb because nobody is right nor wrong in their ideology. Though most people would argue that there was another way etc.
I think it's splitting hairs between Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Dark Knight... at least those are my 2 favorite and the ones I can rewatch the most. But I think this discussion will be null and void once Avengers: Infinity War comes out.

Uhh, why would that be? CA: TWS was fine as a superhero film and probably Marvel's best CBM but what's lacking are good scripts. Not only are the plots uninventive but they have sloppy dialogue between the characters. OTOH, TDK's script was sharp and had great characters. The actors made it an even greater film of course. I can't say the same about previous Marvel actors.
And how are they going to juggle 20ish superheros in the film? It's a nightmare if you ask me.

X-Men DofP is the best superhero movie, or The Dark Knight if we're to include it in that category.
