I don't mind it being 5.6 (I think at one time it was at 4.1,) but when I looked at the written reviews all I could find is page after page of zero stars and one stars. I don't believe it's that bad, those reviews I believe have to be from some group of people who are trying to bring the rating down. I've read of things like that happening on IMDB, but could that actually be the case with this movie on IMDB?

Yep. Pretty sure you'll see a similar pattern on other films that have annoyed the fanboys: Last Jedi, Ghostbusters 2016, Captain Marvel...

That is not entirely true for The Last Airbender. Yes, fanboys can get disappointed and rate a movie low based on their feelings towards the movie but also a movie can just be that bad. I believe fanboys aside, the movie is bad. Here is my point of argument;
Rotten Tomatoes rating (as of 29th, July 2020) Tomatometer All critics - 5% (professionals), Tomatometer Top critics - 2% (professionals), Audience score - 30% (fans)
This translates to 2.78/10, 2.62/10 and 2.35/10. This surely is not about fans, for even professionals don't think this movie deserves the 4.1 stars it got from IMDB.
This is what critics says about the movie;
Critics Consensus: The Last Airbender squanders its popular source material with incomprehensible plotting, horrible acting, and detached joyless direction.
Now, compare this with Captain Marvel which you used as an example
Rotten Tomatoes rating (as of 29th, July 2020) Tomatometer All critics - 78% (6.79/10), Tomatometer Top critics - 64% (6.26/10), Audience score - 48% (2.92/10)
While professionals rated the movie higher than average, (6.79/10) fans only gave it 2.92/10. This could be a good movie that just disappointed fanboys for some reason.
Here is what critics says about the Captain Marvel;
Critics Consensus: Packed with action, humor, and visual thrills, Captain Marvel introduces the MCU's latest hero with an origin story that makes effective use of the franchise's signature formula.
Critics believe that compared to its source material, The Last Airbender is terrible and I agree. But then again my argument might be blinded by the fact that I am a really disappointed fan. I am no fanboy of ATLA but I am a truly disappointed fan and hopefully NETFLIX will boomerang back with something better.
What fanboys do for now is to tell the coming generation of fans that There is NO Avatar MOVIE in Ba Sing Se (for now). We will live with the three animated seasons in harmony until the true Avatar Movie returns even if 100 years will pass but we won't let anybody attack with a bad movie.

I liked "The Last Airbender." Then again, the first time I saw it was at the drive-in.

And your opinion matters a lot. I hope you have given it a better rating at least in TMDB. I personally did not rate it, I don't want my rating to discourage other people who might find a liking to it.

I didn't rate it either, I mainly enjoyed it at the drive-in so much; I ended up getting a used copy of it on Blu-ray. Funny, it wasn't till I watched the Blu-ray did I notice how some of the acting was less than desirable, but that didn't matter to me. I just really liked the concept of the story and on my home system the bass really kicks!

IMDb ratings can be bought. If anything, low ratings are real, while high ratings are the work of hundreds of sock puppet accounts and/or internal finagling facilitated by IMDb.
