Between winning performances by the entire cast, an engrossing story that moves along briskly and never bores (never does me, anyway), high production values and impressive visuals, also the superb recent-years-added Vivek Maddala score, that suits this movie flawlessly and gives it a musical "voice," I think this is terrific.

The section featuring Karl's (Conrad Nagel's) military degradation for treason is a particularly powerful and striking portion of the film. That part is downright gripping and absolutely memorable. It's Silent cinema at its finest.
