Discuss עיר ושמה גיהנום

After reading all the fiery discussions about this film in IMDB, I thought how easy it could have been to make this film an ordinary Western, by omitting the controversial scenes and the dark secrets: a stranger comes to a town which some mean bullies terrorize simply because they can; the local sheriff is a coward; the stranger learns about the situation and decides, of altruism, to stay and help the town people to defend themselves, and in the meantime starts a romance with a nice local woman. In the end, the bad guys are either killed or imprisoned and the decent people live happily ever after.

Would you pefer the movie to be that way?

And the other... Oh wait...

There are no good guys. Except maybe the dwarf.

Dark movie that is worth a rewatch or five.

I agree. The metaphysical stuff makes the film more fun too.

I like that it stayed ambiguous as to whether our drifter was an avenging angel of death or just as gunfighter

It got better as it went on. At first, it seemed like it would be a run-of-the-mill film, but I like how it turned around. Clint is so freaking cool! :D

Was the rape necessary?
