A crappy soft reboot that was the most disappointing in the franchise since The Phantom Menace.

Surely Attack of the Clones was the most disappointing since The Phantom Menace 🤔

I actually like AOTC better than TFA. The action in it was better and the story was original. Of course it had problems, namely the godawful dialogue writing.

I liked TFA. But I agree that AOTC was better.

I'd like to point out that TFA as a stand alone movie, as in pretending no other SW movies exist, is actually a fine film. Witty, funny, dark at times, and some decent action. But when you throw in the other films, especially ANH, then you see that the movie brought NOTHING original to the table as far as story telling goes and that is what makes it such a disappointing addition to the series.

While that is true, it doesn't ruin it for me. To me, it's like The Spy Who Loved Me, which was basically a remake of You Only Live Twice ten years later but it was still an awesome movie in it's own right.

Ah, a Bond film comparison. Nice! IMO those are straight up remakes just like Thunderball and Never Say Never Again. They don't try to pass themselves off as original material. When you think of the pool of creativity the producers at Disney had to pull from when you think about Extended Universe and just the endless possibilities writers can explore when it comes to Star Wars, it is quite disappointing when all they do is a remake. Then they try to pass it off as original which is doubly insulting.

I honestly think there's nothing wrong with doing just that. That's exactly how I came to accept the prequels - just view them as a different take on the "Star Wars" concept.
It's only really the fact that the films are prefixed "Episode whatever" which forces us to make inflated demands of what these films should be, when, in reality - whether in the OT, PT or ST periods - they've have only ever really been fashioned as contemporary blockbusters. Even Lucas didn't focus on making his stories match up...

Lucas focused on originality and telling new stories. This is why the prequels for all of their flaws are superior films to TFA (except maybe Phantom Menace).
