I've never been much of a musical guy but once in a rare occasion there is one that's just amazing. Other musical I like is My Fair Lady and Singing in the Rain.
Have you heard the cover of Edelweiss song in the new series Man in the High Castle. Absolutely haunting.
Christopher Plummer claimed several years after its release he did not like the movie and called it the Sound of Mu#us. I think he liked the film at the time (though not being upstaged by Andrews), but did not want to be typecast, and later took on villainous parts. In The Silent Partner (1978), Star Trek VI (1991), and Up (2009), Plummer shows much more 'vice' than 'edel' (noble).

I do believe Plummer hate all his films once he's been paid.
My best friend and I watched this movie all the time when we were kids. My whole family loves it. I was shocked when I found out my husband had never seen it. I mean, who's never seen this movie?

I'm from Austria where the film is set. Interestingly, very few have seen the film here. It didn't have a good reception when it came out back then. Similar to The Third Man. Though the latter is more popular here.
SoM merely got some attention in recent years because of the many tourists flooding Salzburg.
Being myself a big R&H and Andrews fan, I liked the film. Though I find the score itself to be among R&Hs weakest outputs, despite the marvelous My Favorite Things.

I've seen it so many times, in theaters, on television, even as a sing-along, I can never get enough

I must be the only person in the world who didn't like it.

His "Edelweiss" was overdubbed by the singer Bill Lee.

Thanks for that info -- I didn't know how Austria responded to the film! I'd love to see Salzburg someday, it looks beautiful.
And is schnitzel a sausage? I've never been sure.

No man, I don't like it either. I find it to be a very annoying movie.

Schnitzel is a breaded cutlet.
