If you first watched this movie as a child, did you view the Baroness as a villain? I think when I was younger I saw her in a worse light than I do now -- because she's an obstacle between Maria and the Captain and because she plans to ship the kids off to boarding school, lol. But now that I'm older I don't think she's actually a bad person. She handled Von Trapp's rejection very graciously and stepped aside for Maria, even though it must have been crushing and humiliating for her to be passed over for another, younger woman (and of lower social standing, I suppose).

Yeah, an elegant villain (she wanted to send the kids to boarding school lol) but kinda looked up to her in terms of poise & grace. Loved how she says 'Oh Max!'
The anime version's more villain - if I remember it correctly

Very true. Good points.
Well, when you think about it, the story is told from Maria's point of view, so everybody's going to try to close in on Captain von Trapp, but Cat Fights weren't in vogue until the 1980's, so Eleanor plays the Countess with grace, charm and dignity even if she weren't Politically/Correct then or now although she could teach a few nice tips to P/C activists.
And, besides, nobody's going to get more problematic than Maria, so there's your major problem right there, to try to solve, Sisters.
