I just watched the first Disney movie of Newsies and am just amazed that even in the 90's they let this go and tried to work around it... Christian Bale cannot dance AT ALL. He was developed as a Disney star but obviously they could do nothing here. It is so interesting how they do amazing camera angles, leave him out of most dance views, and use substitutes when possible. Still sometimes there has to be a closeup and he stumbles, falls, and ruins every sequence! It's so bad you see they couldn't even fix it! Honestly have you ever seen a child star with no rhythm whatsoever? Was he going through his first growth spurt and was just totally uncoordinated?

This film was liked and enjoyed by most people who saw it. I guess I look at every movie from a director's perspective, and just cringed so much every time there was a dance sequence. I wonder if the production was totally locked into this star, and how much work it took to either replace him or come up with the huge workarounds you see. Most of the troupe were clearly trained dance performers .
