Both the remake they did for this film and the TV episode with William Shatner are just brilliant. However, John Lithgow's fear of the beastie on the wing of the plane is funnier than Shat's is. I seem to recall one moment in the film where Lithgow's eyes practically bulge out of their sockets in terror? Ha-ha.

Believe it or not, the "bulging eyes" for a split second is kind of a George Miller trademark. When Toe Cutter gets killed at the end of Mad Max when he is run over by the 18 Wheeler, there is a quick reaction shot where you see him rip off his riding goggles and you see his big, bloodshot, bulging eyes. In The Road Warrior you see the "bulging eyes" when Max pulls open the ransacked tanker truck cab door and the decomposing driver falls out.
Even funnier, when Bill Shatner guest starred on Third Rock from the Sun (starring John Lithgow as an alien studying Earthlings) as "the giant head" (the leader of Lithgow's world), he says "You know.. a funny thing happened when I was traveling on the plane. I could have sworn there was something outside on the wing." And then Lithgow practically screamed "The same thing happened to ME!"

Yep, I agree Lithgow is a riot to watch as his fear and terror drive him to hysteria.
