I didn't realise until reading up a little after watching this film that Gary Poulter, who played the abusive alcoholic father of Tye Sheridan's character, was a real-life homeless man discovered by director David Gordon Green in Austin, Texas. He sadly drowned some months before the release of the film.
A tragic end but at least he was captured in this very convincing performance - he really made me loathe the character, which I guess is job well done.
