Discuss Fantastic Planet

Found this film thru a random youtube like a countdown of must see films and the screenshot for this film - a blue alien with a pet human - made me curious. It was english dubbed, wish I can watch original French with subtitles maybe it would have a different feel or was it same monotone narration.

Anyway...highly recommended even for non science fiction fans. It's not that long like only an hour and somehow has a surreal feel to it. Looks old (it was made in the 70s) but that plus the soundtrack added to the charm, for me at least. This film made me think and was instantly hooked by the first scene as I felt guilty doing the same to ants sometimes lol

Clearly an acid driven film of the early 70s, yet somehow even better than Yellow Submarine, for example. Is it the origin of the human race? An allegory of our coming destruction brought about by our failure to appreciate our environment? A Buddhist parable? A vegan morality? Take your pick. No matter how you interpret it, the story telling is magnificent. Don't forget to dose first :-)

Mubi.com is running the original French with multi-subs. (mubi.com is a great streaming service for cinefiles.)
