For me this is one of the better American comedy-dramas of recent years. A genuinely smart, funny, touching film with three great performances by Dennis Quaid, Scarlett Johansson and - best of all - Topher Grace. A pity that the latter actor has never, to my knowledge, found another role as strong as this one because he really does nail his corporate whizz kid, making what could have been a one-dimensional slick a-hole likeable and sympathetic. A terrific performance.
It just works, even as it follows familiar beats. Great writing and rounded characters can go a long way and this film has tremendous rematch value. Highly under appreciated.
