I pretty much refused to watch it at the time figuring it must be the most pointless reboot ever done.
Anyway, so much time's now past I just thought why not... Personally I wouldn't say it was the best, however it certainly wasn't as bad as I had in mind nor as I think some of the reviews claimed at the time.
Garfield's Peter was maybe a bit too cool for my liking - certainly not the Maguire level dork, which seemed closer to the old school cartoons I remember watching as a kid. However I thought he actually seemed better when playing the wise cracking Spiderman. Also preferred and liked his development of the mechanical web shooters.
Nice to see another film removed from the MCU as well. Much prefer to see superheroes in isolation. And in the case of Spiderman without the iron-spider-man suit.
And although I enjoyed Garfield's acting in Martin Scorsese's Silence and maybe another film, I just find him completely alienating as Parker. Thus, this film and its successor starring Garfield are unwatchable for me.
For some reason -- maybe because of Andrew's alienating quality -- when Tom Holland donned the suit, I rather liked it. It felt very much like a 180 degree turn for me, in terms of identifying with Spidey.

It repeated exactly the same story as Raimi's. It even lifted scenes directly but excised anything that made that scene interesting or exciting. The whole film just felt blandly made. Spiderman just isn't supposed to be dark and that approach just doesn't work.
Yeah, I would prefer to see the guy without the iron-spider man suit too. But we could have had that with Tobey Maguire as Spiderman and Sam Raimi at the helm. This reboot was totally unnecessary.

With pretty black chicks Zendaya and Laura Harrier, it has to be Spider-Man: Homecoming.

I finally watched this today!

Parker is the center of the films, obviously.
