Not a synopsis, just the reason why I was disappointed with the ending.
Bonnie gave up her music career for Skip to devote her life to being a wife and mother.

Seems typical for the times and even going decades ahead. Standard wrap things up formula. Frustrating after spending time with the character.

I don't believe I've ever seen this film. But, @wonder, what you mentioned about its ending sounds like also the problem I have with the otherwise-good 1933 film Female, in which Ruth Chatterton's strong and mega-successful automotive executive character gives everything up to be wife to the man she's just met. Of course he'll take over her company (that's always been what she loves and thrives on).

In "Female (1933)" the actor who played Jim, George Brent, must have been a real 'ladies' man'. He was married five times. The first four ended in divorce within 1-2 years.
Two of his ex-wives were actresses, with whom he had co-starred in movies. You can guess who one of them was.

Good thing Ruth didn't drop everything and give up her career when she married George.
