Discuss Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Which option would you prefer barring a complete franchise reboot?

  1. Recast Batman/Bruce Wayne with a different actor to continue the role.

  2. Replace Bruce Wayne with a different Batman like Dick Grayson

  3. Move on with other Justice League characters to carry the DCEU with no more appearances of Batman.

  4. Bring in a different Batman/Bruce Wayne from one of DC's many parallel Earths within the multiverse.

Cheater! Lol.

Depends on how JL is recieved. If its good, go the Dick Grayson route.

But the fact that Affleck might want out tells me it isnt gonna be great...

It would be interesting to know WHY he might want out and how much it's related to how he thinks the quality of the movie will be.

I have absolutley no insider knowledge, but I feel like either he thinks their JL movie sucks (which would be a massive shame) or, more likely, he's seen how Live by Night went and wants to focus more time and effort on his own stuff. He had to rush that film (a passion project) to make JL and he was expected to be shooting The Batman this summer.

This may sound like a cop out but I think Batman needs to be put to bed for a while. Anytime a character is saturated too much it is not good. Amazing Spider-man films I think suffered from that. Batman is my favorite superhero. I just feel especially as of late he has been done to death. Batman is saturated in cinema on his own as it is but to top it all off the superhero genre is saturated as well. If I had to choose though I would go with option 1. Warner Brothers screwed themselves by giving Zack Snyder all the creative keys to these characters. Justice League will not be good either I am afraid. Man of Steel was dreary, dull and joyless. Batman V Superman was not only all that but cringe worthy and somehow had an even worse script than Man of Steel. Going off of track record that does not make me hold any hope for Justice League. The DCU so far is 0/3 in my book. The best of the three being Man of Steel which if that is your best film yikes...

As much as I like the character, I admit that I'm suffering from Bat-fatigue myself. I get that he's typically DC's cash cow, but it seems like he's at the forefront of nearly all of DC's projects.

Well Batman is their poster boy. Mainly because they have had success with him on the big screen in multiple eras. Think about this Superman has not really been good since the Donner era. After Superman 2 the series turned out weak entry after weak entry. Superman 3 was pretty bad not the worst but pretty bad. The fourth was abysmal. Then Superman Returns while not being bad was just so bland. That was a case where it should have been a reboot and it was a sequel set in the Donner universe. Man of Steel honestly is not really any better than Superman Returns. Both have strengths and weaknesses. Both suffer from this though both are joyless.

Difference is Man of Steel tried to distract you by having action take precedence over the plot. Literally one of the few things Man of Steel got right was that it was a reboot. Burton's Batman was more of a cultural success than a critical smash. It got good reception critics just never loved it. Anyway you can not deny that it paved the way for darker superhero films though. Then once Nolan performed cpr on him and made TDK trilogy Batman rose back to the top of the food chain. Green Lantern was attempted but was a critical and box office bomb. So they always retreat back to Batman because quite Frankly they can't seem to do any other character right honestly.

I agree, as much as I like Batman, maybe put it to rest for a bit. Christian Bale's Batman movies were great and still in recent memory. (As far as Superman, I actually like Henry Cavill and I didn't mind Man of Steele. I think they exhausted the 'epic' 50-minute fight scene though. Have someone give up and move on to another scene.)

What I'd like to see happen if Justice League turns into a big flop and the studios decide to stop making them, is a Batman story told by Dick Grayson's viewpoint, I'm sick of seeing Bruce Wayne's parents die all the time, and do not want to see another Batman origin story, but Batman training Robin (Not a kid but someone in his late teens) would be a fresh approach to the series, then later on a Nightwing spinoff might be interesting.

I'm not even a Robin/Nightwing fan tbh but the character done right is due. I'm also in favour of bringing in Batgirl, then Oracle later on in the series. I don't care if she goes back to being Batgirl after a time but I'd love to see her stint as Oracle helping out Batman and Nightwing.

That honestly is not a bad idea. Thing is Batman's origin was great in Batman Begins because it had never been done on the big screen before. In Batman 1989 it only ever was alluded to in flashbacks never really told or elaborated on like how it was In Batman Begins. Now it's exhausted we know Batman's origin do something different.

Rehashing over the same plot points which have already been done is why the amazing Spider-man series failed. Raimi did the origin and did it will no reason to do it again a decade later. I love the idea of Oracle. She could basically be the new series version of Lucious Fox. I think doing a villain which has not been done would be great as well. That was a large part of the charm of Ras Al Ghul and Scarecrow in Batman Begins.

What I really want is a live action Paul Dini Batman. Think Batman the animated series and the arkham games brought to life in a live action film. This would embrace more of the fantasy aspects of Batman.

I think this is the best option. Thing is WB seem more interested in rushing these movie out there. Than making sure that these movies are actually decent. They want the success that marvel has. But without the careful buildup and planning that marvel had to achieve in order to become a success. Marvel made 5 movies before the Avengers. WB has made 2 (3 if you count Suicide Squad) before Justice League.

Number 3.

Slight correction, but Wonder Woman would've come out by its release..so that would technically be 4 movies prior to JL (though no idea if the Suicide Squad will be referenced)
