I finally made the mistake of watching this film on HBO. NO WONDER IT GOT BAD REVIEWS!! It's a muddled MESS! It's so far removed from the source material it's barely recognizable. Affleck's Batman is worse the Clooney's and that's an accomplishment. Is Henry Cavill's face paralyzed? His expression never changes. Costner's Jonathan Kent was just pathetic as was Eisner's Luthor. I counted three subplots that went nowhere. They should have taken the money they blew on this piece of crap and fed starving children with it.

I never bothered going to see this in the cinema, such was the huge negative reaction it was getting - plus I was really put off by WB's rush towards copying Marvel in terms of "superhero buddies" films (I'd rather have just seen MoS2).
However when I did finally see this I was quite surprised at how good it actually was - not brilliant, but certainly pushing the upper end of some of the other recent superhero films.
I couldn't work out why it had been so badly panned, especially with this being a common type of comment:-
Then I discovered the reason - I'd unknowingly watched the expanded edition (EE)!
This is a really funny film to discuss in that you can't unsee what you first saw - from what I've read most people who saw the EE thought it was ok / pretty good, with most people who saw the theatrical reason hating it and saying the EE only marginally improved it...
