So, what do you think? I think when it comes to the theatrical cut versus the director's cut of almost any given film, most people will choose the director's cut. I certainly fall within that category. The director's cut typically gives the director an outlet for greater creative freedom, it gives the viewer more scenes to dig into, and it often tells a more fleshed-out story. But in the case of Cop Land-- which I saw several times during its theatrical release back in 1997 --when I finally saw the director's cut on Blu-Ray, I was disappointed (to the point of throwing it out and sticking to my old DVD copy). The extended monologue of Ray (Harvey Keitel) in the showdown bar scene with Freddy (Stallone) I thought was unnecessary, plus some of the scene order was flipped around from the theatrical release. I felt there was too much verbal exposition in the director's cut as a whole, whereas the theatrical release left it up to the viewer to interpret much of what was seen. What do you think?
